Job description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Electronics Technician Maintenance (ETM) II applies basic and some advanced technical knowledge to solve routine problems by interpreting manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Work requires familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence, in selecting tools, testing instruments, and is reviewed for compliance with accepted practices. This technician works under immediate supervision and achieves technical guidance, as required, from a supervisor or higher-level technician.
REQUIRED SKILLS/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
The ETM II will demonstrate the following core technical capabilities and system-specific experience:
Mandatory System Training in Commercial Broadband Satellite Program (CBSP):
  • Must have completed formal system-specific training on either of the following variants:
    Unit Level Variant (ULV) AN/USC-69(v)3/A(v)3/B(v)3/C(v)3
    Force Level Variant (FLV) AN/USC-69(v)2/A(v)2
  • Must have complete understanding of electrical safety, raw AC/DC power handling, and Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Personnel (HERP/RF radiated power) protection.
  • Must have the ability to read, interpret, and execute steps in System Operational Verification Test (SOVT) documents, including all safety and security measures.
  • Must have proficiency in reading and interpreting shipboard installation drawings, including Installation Requirements Drawings (IRD), Ship Installation Drawings (SID), Ship Alterations (SHIPALT), and Liaison Action Requests (LAR).
  • Must have demonstrated experience with shipboard hardware installation, high-standard cable management, and conducting thorough physical inspections (checking for cable damage, correct labeling, and secure equipment mounting).
  • Must have hands-on proficiency in configuring and verifying settings on Cisco routers and network switches.
  • Must have experience configuring and managing cryptographic equipment, specifically the KG-175 TACLANE.
  • Must have a solid understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, basic routing, Access Control Lists (ACLs), and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).
  • Must have familiarity with core cybersecurity principles, the purpose and application of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and standard vulnerability scans.
  • Must have understanding SATCOM architecture (ship/shore), SATCOM modem settings
  • Must have the ability to deliver detailed technical documentation and final system status reports upon project completion to ensure smooth cross-functional handoffs.
  • The ETM II must be competent in operating the following specialized tools to troubleshoot SATCOM links and electronic components:
    a. Digital Multimeter: Perform basic AC (single-phase and 3-phase) and DC power verifications, alongside DC-bias troubleshooting of sub-level electronic components.
    b. Spectrum Analyzer: Setup and display the Signal Of Interest (SOI), interpret reference levels, bandwidth, Carrier-to-Noise (โ–ก(C/N)) ratios, distinguish between dBm and dB readings, and perform/analyze Insertion Loss (โ–ก(S_โ–ก21 )) and Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) measurements.
    c. Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT): Clear understanding of the differences between Serial and Ethernet BERT, with the ability to configure and utilize Serial and/or Ethernet BERT to troubleshoot active SATCOM links.
    d. LAN Cable Tester: Capability to test Ethernet cables for proper pinout, continuity, and wiring verification.
    e. Software Tools: Proficient with terminal emulators (e.g., PuTTY, Tera Term) and GUI-based management interfaces to configure and diagnose routers, modems, and Ethernet switches.

Education: HS Diploma
Travel Required: 25%
Work Location: San Diego, CA
This position is required to have and maintain a Secret US DoD security clearance.
PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Desired System Experience - STtNG Experience: Direct, hands-on experience or familiarity with the Satellite Terminal (Transportable) non-geostationary (STtNG) Increment 1 is highly desired.
  • Fleet Support and Testing: Demonstrated experience performing shipboard testing, specifically including the execution of System Operational Verification Tests (SOVT).
  • Navy Modernization: Proven experience supporting Navy modernization initiatives, installation cycles, and system upgrades for C4I systems.
  • Networking and Virtualization: Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining Virtual Cisco Routers.
  • Industry Certifications: Possession of current CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, and CCNA certifications.
REMARKS
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Must be able to interface effectively with all levels of technical and management personnel.
Compensation: $44 - $52 an hour.
Compensation for positions at Centurum vary depending on a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, location, responsibilities, skill set, and level of experience.
