Job description

Job Description:

The Network Communication Technician I is an entry-level technical role responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network communication infrastructure throughout AAON facilities. This position assists in ensuring reliable connectivity for business and manufacturing operations by performing routine network support activities, maintaining documentation, and responding to basic service requests. The technician works under the guidance of experienced team members while learning network standards, communication systems, and safe work practices. This role contributes to operational efficiency by helping maintain stable and dependable network performance across the organization.

Primary Duties:

  • Supports daily network communication operations by assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of network infrastructure components.
  • Performs routine inspections, documents network changes, and responds to basic connectivity issues to help minimize operational disruptions.
  • Assists with cable routing, equipment setup, hardware replacement, and testing activities while following established standards and procedures.
  • Works closely with information technology, maintenance, and operational teams to support reliable communication systems throughout the facility.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the installation, termination, labeling, and maintenance of network communication cabling and related hardware.
  • Respond to service requests and troubleshoot basic network connectivity and communication issues.
  • Perform routine inspections and testing of network infrastructure to identify and report abnormalities.
  • Maintain accurate records of network layouts, equipment inventories, and infrastructure modifications.
  • Assist with equipment moves, additions, and changes while ensuring compliance with established standards and safety requirements.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities for network communication systems.
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines while working in manufacturing and office environments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires an Associate's degree in Information Technology, Network Administration, Electronics Technology, or a related field;
  • 0+ years of experience supporting network communication systems, information technology infrastructure, or technical equipment maintenance; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Preferred: CompTIA Network+ certification or equivalent industry-recognized networking certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, including internet protocol addressing, network cabling, switches, and connectivity principles.
  • Ability to use hand tools, testing equipment, and diagnostic tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, diagrams, and work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to follow instructions and established procedures while working independently or as part of a team.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn new technologies and processes.

Essential and Physical Functions:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and climbing to access network equipment and infrastructure.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Use of fine and gross motor skills for cable installation, equipment setup, testing, and repairs.
  • Visual acuity required to read labels, wiring diagrams, indicators, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and follow detailed procedures while diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights exceeding 3 ft. using ladders or lifts as required.

Work Environment:

  • Perform all tasks on-site within office, manufacturing, warehouse, and mechanical equipment areas.
  • Operate in environments with exposure to dust, temperature fluctuations, and varying noise levels.
  • Regular interaction and teamwork with information technology, maintenance, engineering, and production personnel.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and industrial equipment while working in manufacturing environments.
  • Compliance with all applicable safety policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Exposure to loud noise levels, elevated work areas, and industrial conditions typical of a manufacturing facility.
  • This role is classified as a Safety Sensitive Position, requiring heightened awareness and adherence to all safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a secure work environment.
