Job Description Summary:

Salary: $71,884.80 - $107,827.20 annually
The Network Administrator works within the Information Services Infrastructure team, providing network support and administration for the District's mission-critical LAN, WAN, firewall, IP-telephony, wireless, cloud, SCADA/ICS, IoT, and public safety environments.
In addition to enterprise networking, this position supports an extensive modern microwave network connecting not just offices, but also vital infrastructure such as lakes, pump stations, wetlands, raw water pipelines, gates, spillways, recreation areas, and public safety facilities. If you enjoy blending modern technology with meaningful real-world impact, and like the idea of supporting one of the largest water supply and flood control districts in Texas, this role offers a unique chance to make a difference for the growing Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.


Job Description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Administrate the District's enterprise network, with an emphasis on routers, switches, firewalls, wireless, IP telephony, and security appliances.
  • Monitor and review network and security logs; ensure compliance with District security and regulatory standards.
  • Troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve network/user issues; escalate complex problems as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with SCADA/OT staff, Engineering, Public Safety, and Emergency Management personnel on scheduled and unscheduled maintenance or outages.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and repair of microwave links, ensuring resilience across remote water and flood infrastructure.
  • Manage network monitoring platforms and 3rd-party systems for UPS units, PDUs, and environmental controls.
  • Develop documentation, procedures, and standards for network operations.
  • Participate in process improvements, automation, and innovation initiatives.
  • Coordinate with IS staff and business units to ensure reliability, availability, and scalability of IT systems.
  • Manage contractors and vendors as needed.
  • Travel between TRWD facilities is required.
  • Availability to respond to 24/7 operations for critical issues.
  • Maintain familiarity with strategic District levels of service
  • Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Experience:

  • Three plus (3+) years of enterprise networking experience (LAN/WAN, firewalls, wireless, VPN, microwave)
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Structured cabling (Cat 5/6, fiber optics, etc)
    • Network fundamentals (switching, routing, dot1x, firewalling)
    • Cisco IP Telephony or other UC platforms (Teams/WebEx/Zoom)
    • Wireless and microwave technologies
    • Overlay technologies (SDWAN, VXLAN, LISP)
  • Strong understanding of routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP), application layer (DNS, DHCP, NTP, HTTP, SIP, SMTP, SNMP, SSH, TLS/SSL), transport layer (UDP/TCP), and internet/link layer (ICMP, IPsec, ARP)
  • Knowledge of data security administration, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS, ISA-62443)
  • Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with Azure infrastructure services or AWS desired

Required Education/Certification/License:

  • Associates degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience in enterprise network administration
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Cisco CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire
  • Must pass a Texas DPS/FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check and maintain CJIS eligibility

Desired Education/Certification/License:

  • Higher-level certifications such as CCNP, Azure, or security certifications desired.
