Job description

Job Summary:

The Neon Museum is seeking experienced CDL drivers to drive our mobile neon sign-making studio to schools across Clark County as part of our new Glow on the Go program. Our 1995 New Flyer D40LF was remanufactured in 2015 and drives wonderfully. The bus has been transformed by taking out all the passenger seats and converting the space into a studio that allows professionals to safely demonstrate to students how neon signs are made. The Bus Driver is responsible for driving the studio to its destination at local schools so that The Neon Museumโ€™s education team can provide exciting, hands-on science programming for students around the Las Vegas Valley. Trips take place twice per week, generally leaving The Neon Museum before 8:00 am and returning at the end of the school day, after 3:00 pm. Additional drives for maintenance, car washes, and registration may be scheduled.

Essential Job Functions

  • Operate vehicle on assigned routes to schools, the DMV, gas stations, and maintenance appointments.
  • Maintain schedules and operate bus equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform pre-operation safety inspections; request servicing and repairs as needed.
  • Maintain communication with The Neon Museum team, updating team members about ETAโ€™s, route problems, or traffic changes.
  • Maintain all required vehicle records, including travel time, mileage, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and public safety regulations.
  • Provide detailed reports of accidents or incidents to management.
  • Follow Museum safety guidelines and practice safety procedures, especially while the mobile studio is in use.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 2 Year of CDL B or CDL A driving experience required
  • A current valid class A or B CDL, as well as a clean driving record. Passenger endorsement is not required.
  • Public bus and/or driving experience in a related field
  • Be punctual, dependable, and able to maintain professional working relationships with staff, teachers, school administrators, and other bus drivers.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical, drug test, and background check.
  • No DUI/impaired driving record or violations in the last 5 years.
  • Retired or substitute CCSD, RTC, and charter bus drivers are highly encouraged to apply.

Work Context & Physical Requirements

  • Requires regular, punctual attendance and schedule flexibility.
  • Requires the ability to focus while driving and respond calmly to unplanned situations.
  • Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Requires working indoors in controlled conditions and outdoors in desert temperatures.
