Tired of chasing rides across the Bay Area for Uber or Lyft? Join Medicare Transit Inc. as an independent contractor NEMT (Non-Emergency Medical Transportation) Driver and own your territory. We assign you routes in the zone you choose — East Bay drivers stay East Bay, SF drivers stay SF. No bridge-hopping for $9 fares. Instead you'll run scheduled medical trips for patients who need you every single week.
Here's what makes us different: our drivers consistently out-earn rideshare — not by working more hours, but by running fewer, higher-paying trips on a predictable schedule. We'll share exactly what that looks like when you reach out. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful difference in your community while building real, stable income close to home.
Duties
- Safely transport members to medical appointments, dialysis, CBAS programs, mental health visits, and other authorized destinations using your personal vehicle (ambulatory trips) or our company wheelchair-accessible van.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, following proper door-to-door assist protocols and ensuring member safety at all times.
- Operate wheelchair lift and secure mobility devices using approved 4-point tie-down system when assigned to wheelchair van shifts.
- Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections each shift, verifying safety equipment, cleanliness, and mechanical readiness before transporting any member.
- Communicate with dispatch on trip status, delays, member no-shows, or any concerns, keeping the schedule running smoothly for patients who depend on us.
- Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and member documentation in compliance with Modivcare requirements and company policy.
- Represent Medicare Transit Inc. professionally — most members are elderly or managing chronic conditions and deserve a calm, respectful, and dependable driver every time.
Qualifications
- Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record — no DUI or major violations within the past 3 years; 21 years of age or older.
- Must pass a 10-panel drug screen and background check — we coordinate both for you at no cost.
- CPR, First Aid, defensive driving, and medical examination required — we handle the scheduling and send you everything you need. Most drivers are cleared and earning within 2–3 weeks.
- Ambulatory drivers must add a commercial use endorsement to their personal auto insurance, typically $15–30 per month. Wheelchair van drivers use our vehicle at no cost to you.
- Patient, reliable, and professional with elderly or medically vulnerable passengers.
- Smartphone with data plan for dispatch and navigation.
- Prior NEMT, paratransit, or caregiving experience is a plus — but not required. We train you and handle all credentialing from day one.
