Job description


Nemours is seeking a Medical Librarian in Jacksonville, FL
The Medical Librarian will arrange, organize and direct the day-to-day operations of the Medical Library. This role works as part of the Education team to integrate library services with education initiatives including evidence-based medicine tools, patient care, continuing medical education, evidence based practice, research, resident and fellow education and teaching rounds, as well as providing library services to meet the needs of the organization's clinical staff. This position reports to the Head of Library Services.
Medical Librarians will also provide reference, instructional and interlibrary loan assistance to Nemours Associates and affiliated users. Along with customer service and patron education, this role provides planning and collection management support for the department needs.
Essential Functions
Develops and Manages Library Information Services
  1. Performs reference interviews and computerized literature searching, utilizing complex point-of-care and research focused database systems.
  2. Assists in collection development and management, in accordance with organizational goals and needs and operating within budget parameters.
  3. Provides timely interlibrary loan (ILL) service by routinely checking Docline (the National Library of Medicine's [NLM] automated request routing and referral system), as well as the internal requesting system throughout the day; including an awareness of copyright compliance and ILL practices in both lending and borrowing materials.
  4. Assists users in creating and utilizing LoanSome Doc accounts to increase usability if PubMed and efficiency of loaning process.

Manages Health Science Resources
  1. Critically evaluates databases, Internet resources, electronic information services and products.
  2. Acquires, organizes and disseminates the most authoritative electronic resources, books and journals to meet Nemours information needs.
  3. Collects ILL, circulation and in-house use of library materials data on a monthly basis, including number and nature of patron inquiries; records and reports on library usage statistics.
  4. Re-shelve library materials as appropriate.

Maintains Library IS and Technology
  1. Assists in the development and maintenance of the user-facing library web portal.
  2. Troubleshoot user access to library resources, deferring to the Help Desk as needed.

Provides Instructional and Customer Service Support
  1. Provides instruction and training in the use of library resources and services through group and individual training.
  2. Create a visible presence for the library by serving as a member of multidisciplinary teams and clinical pathway committees and rounding with patient care teams as appropriate.
  3. Provide literature searches as requested to support direct patient care, research goals and quality improvement projects, as well as other organizational goals and individual clinician priorities.
