Position: Summer Youth Specialist
Salary: $20 per hour ($21 if bilingual)
Schedule:
  • June 15 – June 18 (Staff Training Week), 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • June 22 – August 20 | Mondays – Thursdays, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: In person, St. Paul

POSITION SUMMARY
The Summer Youth Specialist is an early-career professional eager to learn, grow, and contribute to Neighborhood House's mission. As part of a small but skilled Youth Program team, they join a group of dedicated professionals who care deeply about young people and the neighborhoods we serve. They center participants’ experiences in all they do, bringing curiosity, resourcefulness, and a strong commitment to equity, with an understanding of the systemic patterns that can create barriers for families.
The Summer Youth Specialist plays an important part in creating and supervising high-quality, engaging activities focused on healthy self-identity, positive relationships, critical thinking, and life skills, ensuring that young people at Neighborhood House have a memorable and enriching summer experience.
The Summer Youth Specialist is creative, collaborative, and ready to roll up their sleeves, whether that means playing board games on a rainy day, heading out on a field trip, creating new learning opportunities, or helping facilitate meaningful relationships among youth. Above all, they believe that young people have meaningful contributions to make in our community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Service
  • Provide active supervision and leadership for youth ages 6-18 during all program activities
  • Plan and facilitate engaging activities, including on-site programming, field trips, and special events
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment that promotes youth engagement, learning, and positive development
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with youth and their families while supporting student participation
  • Distribute snacks and lunch meals to youth
  • Assist with classroom or program space set-up and tear-down
  • Support family engagement events and registration processes.
  • Support additional duties as assigned to ensure overall program success
Data Entry amp; Administrative Support
  • Enter participant, service, and activity data accurately into internal databases and case management systems.
  • Assist staff with maintaining organized digital and paper files, and participant attendance tracking
  • Support reporting, tracking, and basic compliance documentation as assigned.
  • Assist with program operations, including maintaining clean and organized spaces and accurately documenting attendance
  • Uphold confidentiality and follow all organizational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
Professional Development amp; Team Participation
  • Collaborate with Youth Program staff to deliver high-quality, safe, and engaging programming
  • Maintain professional communication with staff, youth, families, and community partners
  • Attend required trainings, orientations, and staff meetings.
  • Seek feedback and guidance from supervisors to build skills and confidence.
  • Demonstrate openness to learning and adapting to new assignments.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Actively support and champion the mission and programs of Neighborhood House.
  • Actively support Neighborhood House’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and radical hospitality. Conduct all activities with a high degree of cultural competency.
  • Maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with colleagues, participants, donors, board members, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Consistently uphold Neighborhood House policies, procedures, and confidentiality protocols.
  • When representing Neighborhood House to internal and external audiences, articulate the organization’s desired image and position.
  • Contribute to building a cohesive, respectful, responsive, and productive staff environment that demonstrates our values and mission.
  • Actively participate in required meetings, trainings, and other events as requested.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Required Qualifications
  • High school Diploma
  • Some experience working with youth
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing approximately 20-50 pounds as needed for program activities and setup
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to facilitate structured activities with diverse groups of youth
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple priorities
Desired Qualifications
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills
  • One or more years of experience working with youth
  • Experience in nonprofit or human services organizations
  • Have a valid driver’s license
WORK LOCATION
This in-person role is based in St. Paul, MN.
