Description
ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Transportation Manager alongside being accountable to the Director of Transportation. The Transportation Lead Driver will be responsible for assisting the Transportation Manager with leading their assigned transportation department and ensuring safe, reliable and prompt daily transportation for students. The Transportation Lead Driver will assist the Transportation Manager prepare, compile, and submit reports on weekly activities to the Director of Transportation (DoT). The Transportation Lead Driver will comply with all NC School Bus Safety laws in accordance with the NC Department of Transportation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Uphold the mission and vision of KIPP ENC
  • Provide a safe, healthy, consistent, positive, caring environment for children and staff
  • Communicate clear expectations, processes, and protocols for staff
    • Conduct constructively positive meetings with bus drivers not meeting expectations
    • Complete timely clear and concise employee write-ups
  • Effectively communicate, (i.e., emails, phone calls or in person meetings) with School Leaders and DSO's regarding any bus route changes or bus discipline issues
  • Develop positive working relationship with School Leaders, staff, students and parents that promotes:
    • Positive student culture
    • Happy and healthy staff
    • Favorable and continuous feedback to improve
  • Operate all school bus models:
    • Drive school bus as needed
    • Must be familiar with all bus routes
  • Assists with accidents per Transportation Manager instructions:
    • Contact Emergency Services
    • Contact School Leaders and parents
  • Provide assistance to the Transportation Manager in the following areas:
    • Driver expectations are met
    • Maintain fuel receipts
    • Maintain TD-28 forms
    • Filing
    • Inspect buses for cleanliness
  • Timely reports mechanical issues to mechanic

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Leadership and people management experience
  • In depth familiarity with NC DOT and NC School Bus Safety compliance and laws
  • Currently holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with "P" and "S" endorsements
  • Currently holds a valid School Bus Driver's Certificate (pocket card) and NC DOT Medical Card
  • Microsoft Office Suite and Google Docs Suite skills (preferred)
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
