They conduct security assessments, review system documentation, and provide recommendations to mitigate risks. Validators play a key role in obtaining Authorization to Operate (ATO) for Navy systems by ensuring they meet required cybersecurity controls. Typically, they must have certifications like Security+ or CISSP and experience with DoD cybersecurity requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Navy Validator position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Navy Validator, you need in-depth knowledge of cybersecurity, risk management frameworks, and Department of Defense (DoD) Information Assurance policies, often backed by a security clearance and certifications such as CISSP or Security+. Experience with tools like eMASS (Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service) and familiarity with NIST SP 800-53 controls are typically expected. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for evaluating systems and conveying findings. These competencies are vital to ensure accurate validation of Navy information systems, safeguarding sensitive data and maintaining compliance with federal regulations.

What are some typical challenges faced by Navy Validators on the job?
