Job Overview The role of the SME will be to provide day-to-day Tactical Data Link (TDL) support to NIWC. The position requires an experienced communications expert to support the project. This position will work out of the Chesapeake, VA area. Work Model: Hybrid Responsibilities Essential Duties & Job Functions:
  • Provide technical support services for emerging Fleet Technical Assist (FTA) requirements, which are urgent and routine. FTA categories consist of:
    • Casualty Report (CASREP).
    • Combat Systems, Command, Control, Communications and Computer Readiness Assessment (C5RA).
    • Deploying Group Systems Integration Testing (DGSIT).
    • Inspection & Survey (INSURV).
    • System Grooms and Repairs.
    • Technical Assistance (TA) Visits and Total Ship Readiness Assessment (TSRA).
    • Combat Systems Assessment and Training (CSAT).
    • C4I System of Systems Operability Test (C4I SOT) Support.
    • Perform system testing to evaluate performance and functionality.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Be willing to travel 25 - 45%.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Accountable For:
  • Provide technical assistance during onsite visits to US Navy ships and shore sites.
Job Requirements Mandatory:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have a secret security clearance as a minimum at the time of employment.
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • Four (4) years of hands-on experience with the following Tactical Data Links systems:
    • Link Monitoring and Management Tool LMMT)
    • Common Data Link Management System (CDLMS)
    • AN/USQ-125(V) Link-11 Data Terminal Set (DTS)
    • Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS)
    • Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS).
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Travel Required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug test.
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to work outdoors, in labs, and onboard ships worldwide.
  • Must be able to tolerate heat/cold.
  • Comfortable working around exposures to hazards in shipyard type enviroments.
  • Ability to work in low-lit areas for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to respond to emerging requirement's which may involve travel and/or extended work hours.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to safely lift 40lbs.
  • Must be able to carry tools and test equipment.
  • Must be able to move around freely onboard ships and shore sites.
