Join Plante Moran's National Tax Office and work alongside advanced technical tax professionals who advise clients and engagement teams on sophisticated federal tax matters. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape a growing partnership tax consulting specialty, with a focus on technical excellence, transaction planning, thought leadership, practice development, and technology-enabled service delivery.

As a National Tax Office Manager focused on partnership tax and transaction consulting, you will advise on complex partnership tax matters involving closely held businesses, private equity funds, portfolio companies, and other flow-through structures. You will also help develop consulting methodologies, AI-enabled tools, internal training, and external thought leadership that strengthen the firm's partnership tax capabilities across industries.

Technical consulting
  • Advise clients and engagement teams on complex partnership tax matters involving closely held businesses, private equity funds and their portfolio companies, and other flow-through structures.
  • Consult on partnership allocations, special allocations, capital account maintenance, and other Subchapter K matters.
  • Assist with partnership formations, restructurings, recapitalizations, and joint venture transactions.
  • Provide technical consulting related to Sections 704, 734, and 743, book-up and book-down transactions, and related partnership tax issues.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other transactions involving partnerships and LLCs.
  • Prepare and review technical analyses, memoranda, and client communications related to partnership tax matters.
  • Serve clients and engagement teams across industry lines, including manufacturing and distribution, services, investment funds, private equity, and energy.
Innovation and practice building
  • Contribute to a forward-looking approach for delivering partnership tax consulting services in a technology-enabled environment.
  • Collaborate with tax technology and innovation professionals to develop AI-enabled tools, templates, models, and workflows.
  • Help evaluate and implement emerging technologies that enhance technical research, modeling, knowledge management, and client service delivery.
  • Help develop and expand Plante Moran's partnership tax consulting capabilities as a strategic specialty within the National Tax Office.
  • Collaborate with industry groups and specialty tax practices to identify opportunities and deliver integrated client solutions.
  • Participate in proposal development, solution design, pricing support, and practice development initiatives.
  • Develop visibility over time as a subject matter expert in partnership taxation and transaction planning through thought leadership development and delivery of internal and external presentation.
Required
  • CPA and/or JD required.
  • Four or more years of experience in partnership taxation, federal tax consulting, transaction tax, or related areas.
  • Strong technical knowledge of partnership taxation and related federal income tax principles.
  • Exceptional analytical, research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality client service in a consulting-oriented environment.
  • Interest in leveraging AI, automation, analytics, or emerging technologies within tax consulting.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to developing deep technical expertise.

The compensation range reflects the base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this position across our offices in the following regions: CO, IL, OH, and MA. Generally, experienced hires are not hired at or near the maximum salary range, as compensation decisions take into account a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to: responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography. For early career roles, including campus hires, we offer standardized, market-based starting salaries among individuals within the same hiring group. This approach ensures fairness and reflects current industry benchmarks for entry-level talent.
