National Director information

How does a national director typically balance strategic planning with day-to-day operational oversight?

A National Director is often responsible for setting long-term organizational strategies while also ensuring that day-to-day operations align with these goals. This balance usually involves delegating daily management tasks to regional or departmental leaders, while the National Director focuses on high-level decision-making, resource allocation, and performance monitoring. Regular meetings with senior staff, data-driven progress reviews, and clear communication channels are essential to staying informed and agile. This structure allows the National Director to drive the organization’s vision while addressing operational challenges as they arise.

What is a national director?

A National Director is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the operations, strategy, and performance of an organization or a specific department within a country. They often serve as the top leader for their organization within that nation, ensuring that goals are met and policies are implemented effectively. National Directors typically work in sectors such as nonprofits, corporations, or governmental agencies, and they coordinate with regional or local managers to align national objectives with the broader mission. Their responsibilities may include managing budgets, representing the organization in high-level meetings, and driving organizational growth within the country.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a national director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a National Director, you need extensive leadership experience, strategic planning abilities, and a background in organizational management, often supported by an advanced degree such as an MBA or relevant professional qualifications. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, data analytics tools, and compliance frameworks is commonly required. Exceptional communication, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are crucial for driving organizational success, aligning national operations, and ensuring effective execution of high-level objectives.

Corporate IndianapolisAbout Simon Media & Experiences

Simon Media & Experiences is the commerce media, advertising, and experiential marketing business of Simon Property Group. Through Simon's portfolio of premier destinations, Simon Media & Experiences helps brands connect with consumers through audience, media, and experiential solutions designed to drive measurable business outcomes.

At the center of this ecosystem is Simon Media Network (SMN), Simon's commerce media platform. Powered by 200+ destinations, 1.2B annual visits, and first-party behavioral data, SMN enables advertisers to connect with high-value consumers through audience activation, on-property digital out-of-home advertising, and off-platform media channels.

By combining audience intelligence, media activation, and real-world measurement, SMN helps brands reach consumers throughout the path to purchase while delivering measurable business results beyond traditional media metrics.

Primary Purpose

We are seeking a National Sales Director to drive revenue growth across Simon's media portfolio. This is a growth-oriented role responsible for developing advertiser relationships, generating new business opportunities, and closing revenue through Simon's media and advertising solutions.

Leveraging Simon Media Network as a differentiated entry point, this individual will introduce advertisers to Simon's audience, activation, measurement, and media capabilities while developing solutions that may include audience-led activation, off-platform media, on-site DOOH advertising and cross-channel media programs.

The ideal candidate is a proven media seller who excels at opening doors, building relationships, and converting opportunities into long-term client partnerships. This individual combines a consultative approach with a relentless focus on driving revenue and delivering results.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Prospect, pitch, negotiate, and close new advertising partnerships with national brands and agencies.

  • Build and manage a self-sourced pipeline of opportunities across a range of advertiser categories and business segments.

  • Lead with Simon Media Network's audience intelligence, activation, and measurement capabilities to create new revenue opportunities.

  • Develop and sell customized advertising programs incorporating audience activation, off-platform media, on-site DOOH advertising, and other Simon media solutions.

  • Partner with SM&E's Commerce Media and Client Success teams to develop compelling proposals and support campaign effectiveness discussions and renewals.

  • Consistently achieve and exceed revenue goals through both audience-led and traditional media sales opportunities.

  • Develop senior-level relationships with marketing decision-makers, agency partners, and media investment teams.

  • Represent Simon Media & Experiences in client meetings, industry events, and marketplace engagements.

  • Maintain disciplined pipeline management, forecasting accuracy, and CRM reporting.

  • Provide market feedback that helps inform product development, sales strategy, and go-to-market initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in advertising, media, digital, retail media, programmatic, DOOH, or related media sales environments.

  • Demonstrated success generating new business and building a pipeline from the ground up.

  • Consistent track record of achieving and exceeding revenue goals.

  • Experience selling into agencies and brand-direct organizations.

  • Strong understanding of modern media planning, audience targeting, activation, measurement, and advertising solutions.

  • Ability to translate complex media offerings into clear, compelling business solutions.

  • Strong presentation, negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-growing and evolving business environment.

Why This Role

Simon Media Network represents a significant growth opportunity within one of the country's most valuable consumer ecosystems. This role offers the opportunity to bring a differentiated media platform to market, helping advertisers connect audience intelligence, media activation, and measurable business outcomes in ways few platforms can replicate.

Success in this role will be defined by the ability to introduce advertisers to Simon Media Network's unique capabilities, develop meaningful advertiser relationships, and drive revenue growth across Simon's media portfolio.
