Job description

Position Overview

The Scrum Master is an integral team lead member of one or more agile teams in the application software department. They are responsible for guiding the team to success during 2-week Sprints by using the best practices of Disciplined Agile Development team management Principles, Promises and Guidelines. The primary responsibility of the Scrum Master is to manage the logistics and resolve bottlenecks to keep their Agile team(s) on track to successfully complete all committed Sprint tasks. The Scrum Master also assists in planning by guiding the team to estimate work, building forecasts and leading grooming sessions. The Scrum Master also contributes to the management of the work backlog prioritization/clean up. Along with leading the team and contributing the organization of the product backlog. The Scrum Master may also design & create new stories/tasks for the work backlog via coordination with the Business Analyst, Product Owner and/or Software Development Manager.

Responsibilities

· Lead daily standup meetings to assess progress of Sprint, identify and resolve bottlenecks.

· Facilitate getting work completed under the agreed upon definition of done.

· Organize external meetings and demos with internal team members and customer stakeholder(s).

· Organize internal Scrum ceremonies (Daily stand-up, Sprint Planning, Sprint Demo and Retrospective).

· Provide guidance to team on suggested self-organized plans to complete Sprints.

· Present creative solutions to complete Sprints to all internal and external stakeholders.

· Remove impediments/blockers for items in the current Sprint.

· Prevent interruption and distractions for activities outside of the Sprint.

· Work with Business Analyst, Product Owner, and Stakeholder(s) to organize backlog items to be estimated during weekly backlog estimation sessions.

· Co-lead backlog estimation session by presenting new backlog items to the team and contribute to the design and definition of items and acceptance criteria.

· Present previous Sprint report to stakeholders and lead team through spring planning/retrospective.

· Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or judgement.

· Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and innovation.

· Provide all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible and lead by example.

· Guide the team on how to get the most out of the Sprint by self-organizing themselves.

· Use corporate development planning tools, (JIRA and Azure DevOps), as a platform to enable effective communication about development activities.

· Plan timelines for team projects by forecasting future Sprints.

· Identify and report KPIs for team performance.

· Communicate critical changes in scope to stakeholders.

· Other duties as assigned.
