How much do nasa part time jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 12, 2026, the average hourly pay for nasa part time in the United States is $18.27, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $16.35 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can you work at NASA if you're not a citizen?

Generally, NASA requires applicants for federal jobs, including part-time positions, to be U.S. citizens. Non-citizens are typically ineligible for federal employment unless they have special authorization or work in specific contractor roles with security clearances. For most NASA positions, U.S. citizenship is a mandatory requirement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a NASA Part-Time Employee, and why are they important?

To thrive as a NASA Part-Time Employee, you generally need relevant academic qualifications in fields such as engineering, science, computer science, or administration, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with specialized technical tools, software (such as MATLAB, Python, or CAD programs), and potentially security clearances or certifications may be required depending on the specific role. Strong teamwork, communication, and adaptability are important soft skills for collaborating on multidisciplinary projects and navigating NASA's dynamic environment. These skills and qualifications are vital to effectively support NASA’s mission, contribute to innovative projects, and maintain high standards of safety and performance.

What are NASA part-time jobs?

NASA part-time jobs are positions at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration that allow employees to work fewer hours than a standard full-time schedule. These roles can include administrative, technical, research, or support positions and may be available to students, interns, or experienced professionals. Part-time opportunities at NASA offer flexible work arrangements and the chance to contribute to groundbreaking space and science missions while maintaining a balanced schedule.

What is the difference between Nasa Part Time vs Nasa Intern?

AspectNasa Part TimeNasa Intern
CredentialsVaries; often requires relevant coursework or experienceTypically students enrolled in a related degree program
Work EnvironmentFlexible hours, part-time schedule, on-site or remoteStructured internship program, on-site or remote
Employer & Industry UsageUsed for supplemental staff or project supportUsed for educational training and skill development

While both roles involve NASA, Nasa Part Time positions are often flexible roles for experienced or part-time workers, whereas Nasa Internships are designed for students gaining hands-on experience. Internships typically require enrollment in a related degree program and focus on training, while part-time roles may require relevant skills or coursework but are more flexible in nature.

How much does NASA pay an hour?

NASA part-time employees' hourly wages vary depending on the position, experience, and location, but generally range from $15 to $30 per hour. Salaries for federal employees are often based on the General Schedule (GS) pay scale, which can influence hourly rates for part-time roles. Additional benefits may include flexible schedules and opportunities to work on space-related projects.

What jobs can I work at NASA?

NASA offers a variety of jobs including engineers, scientists, technicians, administrative staff, and project managers. Positions often require specialized skills, relevant degrees, and security clearances, with opportunities in research, spacecraft operations, and mission support. Many roles are full-time, but part-time and internship opportunities are also available for students and early-career professionals.

Is it difficult to get hired at NASA?

Getting hired at NASA for a part-time position can be competitive due to high standards and limited openings. Candidates typically need relevant education, technical skills, and experience in fields like engineering, science, or technology, along with a strong application process. Persistence and a solid background increase the chances of securing a position.

What are the typical responsibilities and work expectations for a part-time position at NASA?

In a part-time role at NASA, you can expect to contribute to specific projects or research initiatives, often supporting full-time teams with tasks such as data analysis, technical writing, or laboratory work, depending on your area of expertise. The work environment is highly collaborative, and you may participate in meetings, brainstorming sessions, and interdisciplinary teamwork. Flexibility in scheduling allows you to balance other commitments, but you are still expected to meet project deadlines and maintain high professional standards. Such positions often provide valuable exposure to NASA's unique culture and may open pathways to full-time opportunities or specialized career advancement.
