Job description

Are you looking for an opportunity to advance your career while working with an extraordinary team? At Merakey, we put heart and soul into everything we do. We are seeking a Direct Support Professional to join our team in Pittsburgh-Crafton area.
Pay $21/hr
Monday to Friday 8:00-4:30
This is a professional position providing therapy through music for developmentally disabled individuals. This employee is primarily responsible for developing and implementing structured music therapy sessions, therapeutic goals in a musical setting. Work is performed under the direction of the Program Director.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
  • Provides therapy through music for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)
  • Responsible for developing structured music therapy sessions and implementing therapeutic goals in a musical setting
  • Develop, maintain, and implement a planned program of Music Therapy, including special events
  • Order and maintain an active inventory of equipment
  • Provide initial, periodic, and annual evaluations for residents in therapy and/or not currently receiving music therapy
  • Ensure the safety of the individuals is maintained at all times. Attend or conduct in-services as required.
  • Keep storage areas and work area clean and properly arranged
  • Develop music activities to improve social, cognitive, communication, and motor skills.
  • Devise and implement individual goal plans as it relates to music therapy.
  • Creates and maintains appropriate documentation with accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in the revision of departmental policies and procedures as needed.
  • Participates in individual development plan meetings involved in music therapy.
  • Trains other staff in the carryover of goal plans and musical activities.
  • Assists with resident activities of daily living (ADL) needs when necessary.
  • Implementation and documentation of Behavior Support Programs of residents.
  • Performs work-related tasks as required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy - Required
  • Credentials must be maintained under American Music Therapy Association
  • Music Therapy Board Certified preferred
  • Experience with working with Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement music programs with creativity and initiative
