This role reports to the Pastor.
Salary: $60.00 per hour (8 hours per week)

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Pastor and other parish staff, integrating the music program with overall parish endeavors.
  • Directs the parish music program, selects and plans music in cooperation with staff for use in parish liturgies.
  • Provides leadership in liturgical music areas: selects and maintains instruments, coordinates services and schedules of parish musicians, and ensures copyright permission.
  • Prepares and manages the budget for the parish music program in collaboration with staff and the Pastor.
  • Collaborates with staff members such as the DRE and Youth Minister to coordinate appropriate music for all sacramental celebrations, offering consultation and assistance.
  • Coordinates music or musicians for all Sunday and major celebrations, including weddings and funerals.
  • Builds repertoire and encourages parish community participation in singing at various liturgies.
  • Acts as consultant to parishioners for planning sacramental liturgies (e.g., weddings, funerals, baptisms).
  • Invites, motivates, and trains all parish ministers of music, whether volunteer, stipended, or salaried.
  • Provides liturgical formation, music education, and practical preparation for cantors, choir leaders, and instrumental groups.
  • Serves as a resource consultant for parish music concerns, educating staff, ministers, and congregation in musical worship quality.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in liturgy and music, directing music ministers to training workshops and formation opportunities.
  • Is visibly present at principal parish events, attuned to faith and parish needs.
  • Cooperates with the Pastor in recruiting needed musicians and involves newcomers and a broad spectrum of parishioners.
  • Works to foster unity among all parish musicians, creating harmony with the presider and other liturgical ministers.

Qualifications

  • Muss be a practicing Catholic who supports the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music or related field, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Knowledgeable and comfortable with church music literature across styles for congregations, choirs, vocalists, and instrumentalists.
  • Proficient in Spanish, with a fluent Spanish repertoire.
  • Proficient in liturgical principles.
  • Understands musical, liturgical, and pastoral judgments in selecting liturgical music.
  • Proficient in at least one performance area (e.g., keyboard, choral, voice).
  • Dependable, responsible, self‑motivated, and creative.
