VP for Science Administration

Position Summary:

The NYBG Press is offering a Scientific Publishing Internship as a part-time opportunity during summer 2026 for a high school or college student.

The NYBG Press intern will gain skills and professional development related to scientific publications, botanical research, and biodiversity collections and will work with an NYBG mentor on a project that combines these areas.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Project activities may include, but are not limited to, scientific publications, editorial work, plant diversity research, and museum specimen curation. The internship may also involve collaborative projects and professional development activities focused on career awareness, presentations and science communication, skill development, and professional conduct. Interns are expected to make satisfactory progress on assigned projects and responsibilities and to carry out duties as directed by their supervisor.

Science interns are expected to adhere to all safety practices and procedures while onsite and during any online sessions if needed.

Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment in a high school or undergraduate degree program.
  • Interest in scientific publications and plant science.
  • Passion for learning new things.
  • Good interpersonal skills and willing to be a team player.
  • Responsible, punctual, professional, motivated, and self-motivated.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

This position will require work in an office, laboratory, and/or collections environment, with extended periods sitting or standing at a desk, using a computer, and attending meetings virtually and in person with other people. Interns are required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may use laboratory equipment with proper training. Interns must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Baseline Work Schedule:

Part time, with schedule determined in consultation with supervisor, approximately 15 hours per week. While school is in session, minors are limited to a maximum of 3 hours/day during the week.

Pay rate: $17 p/hr
