General Accountant
General Scope of Responsibilities
The General Accountant will perform a variety of accounting functions and fiscal reporting requirements for LEARN and LEARN member districts. The General Accountant will work in conjunction with management to develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures consistent with current best practices related to accounting operations and workflows. This position will also be responsible for accounting assignments at LEARN member districts.
Relationship within the Organization
The General Accountant reports to and is evaluated by the Chief Financial Officer and/or the Assistant Director.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations, research open items, and ensure all assigned accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare, process, and monitor school and program invoicing and collections across LEARN.
  • Provide business office services to LEARN's member districts including accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant accounting, and payroll support. Travel to LEARN's member districts is required.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain procedures and internal controls related to accounting and business office functions both internally and at LEARN's member districts.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for auditors on items such as capital assets, lease spreadsheets, and other account analytics / supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and process weekly bank deposits and enter related activity in the MUNIS accounting system.
  • Perform other duties as appropriately assigned.

Physical Requirements
  • The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.

Experience & Training
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to function effectively in a team environment.
  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or five years of governmental accounting experience. Not for Profit accounting experience considered.
  • MUNIS experience preferred.
