About Us
The Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine is seeking a full-time research laboratory technician to assist with ongoing research projects including a clinical trial of vaginal treatments to improve the vaginal microbiome and menopausal vaginal symptoms.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under general supervision, the lab technician will be responsible for routine processing of human biospecimens for long-term storage and maintenance of accurate records of sample collection, processing and inventory.
  • Performs isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC)
  • Performs routine ELISAs and multiplex Luminex assays on clinical samples
  • Maintains bacterial cultures
  • Performs routine RT-PCR on clinical samples
  • Performs immunohistochemistry on tissue samples
  • Follows established laboratory protocols and safety procedures and performs technical procedures with occasional guidance
  • Collects, records and organizes scientific data using computerized software and assists occassionally with basic data analysis as directed.
  • Maintains laboratory inventory by monitoring routine supplies, assisting with ordering, and ensuring proper storage and disposal of laboratory materials in accordance with institutional policies
  • Assists occasionally with maintaining laboratory organization, equipment, and documentation to support ongoing research activities.
  • Rarely trains or guides other lab members

QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.S. and B.A. degree in Biology or related science or equivalent skills and experience plus 0-2 years experience required
  • Experience with molecular and protein chemistry techniques such as ELISAs, multiplex Luminex assays, RT-PCR, PBMC isolation, bacterial culture, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry preferred.
  • Working knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and safety measures is required.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team is essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Expertise in basic computer software such as word, excel and powerpoint required.
  • Must be willing to work on multiple projects.
