Position Title:
Senior Instructional Designer-HR Talent Development & Learning-Mount Sinai Health Systems-Full Time-Days
Position Summary:
The Senior Instructional Designer is responsible for e-learning design, instructional design, content development, multimedia development, and instructor-led training. This role focuses heavily on designing high-quality learning solutions that support professional development and organizational initiatives across the health system. The Senior Instructional Designer develops and designs course curriculum and training plans across multiple modalities, including instructor-led, virtual, blended, and self-paced learning, with an emphasis on creating engaging, learner-centered experiences.
The ideal candidate is equal parts instructional designer, content creator, and storyteller-someone who can transform content into dynamic, visually engaging learning experiences that drive engagement and application. Experience with e-learning development, video editing, and multimedia design is essential. Experience facilitating live virtual or in-person learning experiences is preferred. The Senior Instructional Designer is also responsible for managing projects from inception through implementation and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver high-quality learning solutions.
Responsibilities
E-Learning Design
  • Analyzes storyboards and other documentation and make recommendations for proper interactive and development strategies
  • Designs and develops self-paced trainings using sound instructional design principles
  • Develops and programs SCORM compliant e-learning courses using industry-leading authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and other instructional technologies.
  • Works with and creates custom graphics in tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
  • Offers innovative, creative solutions
  • Develops multimedia learning assets including videos, animations, graphics, knowledge checks, and scenario-based learning activities.
  • Produces and edits learning videos and multimedia content to support virtual, blended, and self-paced learning experiences.

Instructional Design
  • Identifies and recommends appropriate instructional strategies, instructional technologies, and engagement techniques that improve learner retention and application.
  • Researches and makes recommendations on educational best practices, instructional resources and technologies, and multimedia/software to support teaching and learning
  • Keeps abreast of new learning software applications and technical knowledge
  • Incorporates real-world examples, reflection activities, and practical application into learning experiences.
  • Stays current on learning trends, instructional technologies, AI platforms, and innovative approaches to workplace learning.

Content Development
  • Consults with SMEs on learning objectives and content through curriculum development sessions, documents findings, and writes reports
  • Develops course materials, in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, animation and multimedia to make courses dynamic, visually appealing, and interactive
  • Recommends appropriate assessment techniques

Project Management
  • Provides training plan, project milestones, forecast completion dates, identify risks and issues, and devise contingency plans to mitigate risks, inform management of accomplishments, plans, and activities
  • Coordinates instructional projects from inception to completion, enters data into database, and maintains files and records
  • Partners and collaborates with training vendors and manages vendor relationships, including selection, direction and issue resolution
  • Collaborates closely with internal teams, stakeholders, and vendors to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.

Instructor-led Training
  • Trains SMEs in technology tools and e-learning instructional design methods
  • Delivers selected technology related instructor led training and participates in TDL virtual and in-person learning programs
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications
Education requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required. Master's degree preferred. Applicable work experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements

Experience Requirements:
  • 5+ years of design and development experience, focused on e-learning formats
  • Graphic Design, LMS and e-learning authoring,
  • Proficiency in Adobe Software Products: Creative Suite, Captivate
  • Proficiency with Articulate Storyline, Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software, and multimedia development tools.in MacroMedia Flash, Photoshop, audio- and video-editing
  • Basic knowledge of JavaScript, XML, HTML, Sharepoint
  • Strong visual design and storytelling skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience facilitating live virtual or in-person learning experiences is preferred.
  • Experience working in healthcare or large, complex organizations preferred.

Compensation Statement:
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $87,692.00 - $131,538.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
