Location: Brody Hall, Landon Hall, Brody Sparty's
Starting Pay Rate: $14.73 / hour*.
*
Due to the minimum wage increase at MSU, the starting rate for this position is going to be $16 effective 8/9/26. Those hired prior to 8/9/26 will also be brought to the new minimum on this effective date.
As a Student Cashier/Host, you will be responsible for handling credit cards for dining hall sales. You will also be responsible for swiping student ID's, and assisting customers with any relevant questions. It is your job to make sure the guests of Culinary Services are always greeted in a friendly manner, while receiving the most outstanding customer service.
Cashier/Hosts are expected to work as directed in any position as required to ensure continued, optimal service, and support of the operation. This may include cleaning tables, putting away dishes, refreshing beverage stations, serving food and kitchen cleaning.
Typical Duties May Include:
Facilitating incoming and outgoing communication via phone calls
Answering customers questions and address customer issues
Process Financial transactions on Cash register.

Greet visitors and clients
Cleaning and organizing work area and dining area
Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year)
  • Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
  • Must be positive and respectful, especially when working with a diverse population
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must keep all information strictly confidential
  • Ability to communicate verbally with, and understand information from customers
  • Must be positive and respectful, especially when working with a diverse population
  • Ability to learn and explain MSU dining plans
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to work with staff and customers at all levels
Customer Service experience
Previous Cashier (or related) experience.
