Description
The University of Chicago's Department of Family Medicine and the Institute for Population and Precision Health is accepting applications for Instructional Professors (open rank) in the Master of Science in Precision Health program (MsPH, https://precisionhealth.bsd.uchicago.edu). The Master of Science in Precision Health (MsPH) program at the University of Chicago is the first of its kind, applying emerging technologies and research methodologies in precision medicine in the context of a broader population health perspective to improve disease prevention and health promotion while also addressing health disparities. The MsPH's bold translational agenda in education and research aims to transform clinical practice through the application of big data, computational science, genetics, biology, policy, ethics, societal factors and other determinants of health to better understand precision techniques for preventing disease, promoting wellness, and developing better treatment options that improve patient health and sustain wellness.
Appointees will teach 4-6 courses per academic year in addition to substantial mentoring and service responsibilities. Appointees will be responsible for developing courses in areas such as clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, machine learning and AI, and genomics. Additional courses can be developed based on the expertise and interest of the appointee, in consultation with the program's faculty director. Appointees will also advise students on quarterly course selection and provide broad academic and professional guidance to a cohort of master's students in weekly office hours. They will also closely advise students and alumni who are applying to postgraduate programs. Other non-classroom duties include participating in admissions and recruiting as well as other co-curricular academic programming. They hire and manage teaching assistants, contribute to program operations, and participate in pedagogy workshops. This is a full-time, career-track teaching position. The initial three-year appointment will begin in Academic Year 2025-2026 and is renewable with opportunity for promotion. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications. This position is benefits-eligible. Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have: 1) completed a PhD in biomedical sciences, bioinformatics, data science or related fields, or an MD with advanced training and 2) have prior University level teaching experience in relevant course(s).
