Job description

Estimator / Project Manager – Heavy Civil Construction

We are seeking an Estimator/Project Manager to lead project delivery from pre-construction through closeout. You’ll work closely with clients, engineers, and internal teams to ensure bids are competitive and execution is seamless.

Successful Team Members in This Role Will…

  • Lead the full lifecycle of infrastructure projects—from estimating and bidding through scheduling and execution
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors
  • Submit competitive bid proposals and support business development strategy
  • Collaborate with superintendents and field teams to maintain schedule, budget, and safety compliance
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and vendors throughout the project
  • Monitor project performance, track progress, and manage change orders
  • Identify and mitigate risk factors affecting scope, cost, or timelines
  • Ensure quality standards, contract compliance, and regulatory requirements are met
  • Maintain accurate reporting for internal leadership and client stakeholders

A Day in the Life of an Estimator/Project Manager:

  • Start the day reviewing bid opportunities or current project status updates
  • Attend pre-bid walkthroughs or project site visits as needed
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and evaluate vendor/subcontractor quotes
  • Lead client calls or internal progress meetings
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, and coordination with project engineers
  • Monitor budget and prepare forecast updates
  • Wrap up by updating bid files or project reports

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in heavy civil construction project management and/or estimating
  • Experience delivering paving and infrastructure projects 
  • Proficiency in estimating and project management software (e.g., Procore, HCSS, Primavera, MS Project)
  • Strong understanding of construction means/methods, sequencing, and cost control
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
