What is a movement coach?

A Movement Coach is a professional who helps individuals improve their movement patterns, mobility, and overall physical performance. They assess clients' posture, flexibility, strength, and movement efficiency to design personalized training programs. Movement Coaches work with people of all ages and abilities, from athletes looking to enhance performance to individuals seeking relief from pain or better everyday movement. Their approach often incorporates elements from sports science, physical therapy, and functional training to promote safe, efficient, and effective movement.

What are some common challenges faced by movement coaches when working with clients of varying abilities?

Movement Coaches often work with clients who have diverse backgrounds, fitness levels, and mobility limitations. A common challenge is tailoring movement programs to meet individual needs while ensuring safety and motivation. Coaches must continuously assess progress and adapt exercises to accommodate injuries or specific goals. Effective communication and building trust are key to encouraging clients to push past barriers while maintaining proper form and technique. Collaboration with other health professionals, such as physical therapists or trainers, may also be necessary to provide comprehensive support.

Job description

MOCO Movement Center is looking for a new Occupational Therapist to join our team!

Do you know an occupational therapist who loves working with amazing children, awesome families and among a brilliant energetic, supportive team? If so, please tell them to send an email to MOCO including name & contact information, a resume or description of relevant experience and reasons for applying to work at MOCO and join a fantastic team and work with amazing families and their children.

ABOUT MOCO MOVEMENT CENTER: MOCO Movement Center is a private pediatric occupational, physical and speech therapy practice located in Rockville, MD. At MOCO, we apply therapy in the real occupations of childhood, such as rock-climbing, ice-skating, music, swimming, sports, climbing over obstacle courses and more.

MOCO’s mission is to meet each client where they are and take them where they want to go and where they never believed they would be. With highly skilled, creative, therapists we use an intervention that promotes child development through an autonomous, playful, joyful and engaging process during play based interactions and daily routines. Each MOCO team member respects autonomy, uses intrinsic motivation and encourage the children to be strong self advocates Since we can’t all be experts in all of those activities, we use a unique treatment model where our therapist’s partner with “therapeutic facilitators” (essentially OT aides), who can teach the skills required for each activity while the therapists can focus on making the activity therapeutic. Our therapists love this model because it enables them to consult with the other therapists, step back and reassess the child’s needs, or take a private moment to speak to the family while the movement coach works with the child.

The working environment at MOCO is very supportive and we look forward to welcoming a new therapist into our big happy family!

MOCO Movement Center is a peanut free facility. MOCO Movement Center is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected.
