Position Summary:
The Vice President of Mortgage Operations is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for all Tri Pointe Connect's operations activities, including Processing, Underwriting, and Closing functions within a centralized National Operations Center. This executive role is accountable for delivering exceptional service, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, quality control, and scalable growth while supporting the organization's mortgage opeations objectives. This role partners closely with the Production Team, Secondary Marketing, Compliance, Risk Management, Technology, Tri Pointe Assurance, Tri Pointe Homes, and Executive Leadership to optimize workflow efficiency, improve cycle times, enhance customer and partner experiences, and ensure consistent execution across all mortgage operations teams.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute operational strategies that support the organization's mortgage growth, profitability, service, and quality objectives.
• Lead and inspire high-performing teams across Processing, Underwriting, Closing and Risk Management.
• Establish performance metrics and productivity standards to drive operational excellence.
• Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and customer focus.
• Oversee end-to-end mortgage fulfillment processes from application through loan closing.
• Ensure efficient workflow management, capacity planning, staffing models, and resource allocation across all operational departments.
• Monitor pipeline performance, turn times, productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction metrics.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions that increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service delivery.
• Drive operational readiness for changing market conditions, production volumes, and strategic initiatives.
• Provide executive oversight of underwriting operations to ensure sound credit decisioning and adherence to agency, investor, and company guidelines.
• Monitor underwriting quality, consistency, exception management, and risk controls.
• Partner with Credit Risk and Compliance teams to maintain underwriting integrity and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure processing and closing teams consistently deliver accurate, timely, and compliant loan files.
• Establish best practices to improve cycle times, borrower experience, and operational efficiency.
• Oversee management of closing pipelines to ensure timely funding and investor delivery.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, agency, investor, and company mortgage lending requirements.
• Partner with Compliance, Legal, Internal Audit, and Quality Control, title and escrow and the homebuilding teams to address regulatory changes and audit findings.
• Implement and maintain strong operational controls to mitigate risk and ensure data integrity.
• Champion digital transformation initiatives and operational automation strategies.
• Collaborate with technology teams to optimize loan origination systems (Encompass), workflow tools, reporting platforms, and customer-facing technologies.
• Utilize data analytics and reporting to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
• Recruit, develop, and retain top talent.
• Build leadership succession plans and career development pathways.
• Coach and mentor direct reports while fostering a high-performance culture.

• Analyze operational metrics including productivity, quality, cycle times, pull-through rates, customer satisfaction, and service levels to identify trends, opportunities, and performance gaps.
• Design, implement, and administer performance-based incentive and compensation plans that align individual, team, and organizational objectives while driving productivity, quality, and service excellence.
• Partner with Human Resources and Executive Leadership to ensure compensation programs are competitive, measurable, equitable, and aligned with business goals.
• Utilize data-driven insights to establish performance targets, monitor outcomes, recognize top performers, and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
• Present operational performance reports, workforce analytics, and incentive plan results to executive leadership on a regular basis.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Management, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 10+ years of applied mortgage leadership experience.
• 5+ years leading multi-functional mortgage fulfillment teams, including Processing, Underwriting, and Closing.
• NMLS MLO license, a plus.
Skills:
• Expertise with loan origination systems, Encompass preferred.
• Demonstrated success managing large-scale mortgage operations in a centralized or national environment, builder experience, a plus.
• Extensive knowledge of agency, investor, federal, and state mortgage lending regulations and guidelines.
• Strong understanding of mortgage credit, underwriting, processing, closing, quality control, and operational risk management.
• Proven experience leading process improvement and operational transformation initiatives.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
• Working knowledge and development of competitive and comprehensive compensation plans.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and forward-looking planning.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management capabilities.
