Job description

The Group
Morningstar's corporate functions play a critical role in advancing our mission to empower investor success. The People & Culture team designs and delivers end-to-end experiences across the talent lifecycle-fueling growth by helping our employees succeed.
The Role
Morningstar is seeking a Senior Technical Recruiter to lead hiring across engineering, data, and product domains. This role goes beyond execution-you will operate as a trusted talent advisor, shaping hiring strategies, influencing decision-making, and delivering high-quality talent outcomes in a competitive technical market.
You will own complex, high-impact searches and partner directly with senior leaders to define hiring needs, assess market realities, and drive outcomes.
This role is a hybrid position requiring four days a week in our Chicago office.
What You'll Do
Talent Advisor & Strategy
  • Serve as a strategic partner to hiring managers and business leaders-shaping role scope, hiring plans, and candidate profiles
  • Lead structured intake conversations to define success criteria and align stakeholders upfront
  • Provide market intelligence on talent availability, compensation, and competitive landscape to guide decision-making
  • Proactively challenge assumptions and influence hiring outcomes as a credible advisor

Full-Cycle Technical Recruiting
  • Own end-to-end recruiting for technical roles (software engineering, data, infrastructure, product)
  • Build and execute sourcing strategies for hard-to-fill roles, including passive talent engagement
  • Screen and assess candidates with a focus on both technical capability and long-term fit
  • Drive efficient, high-quality interview processes and facilitate calibrated decision-making
  • Lead offer strategy development, negotiation, and closing

Pipeline & Sourcing Excellence
  • Build diverse, high-quality pipelines using multi-channel sourcing strategies (direct sourcing, referrals, partnerships, communities)
  • Continuously refine sourcing strategies based on performance data and market insights
  • Develop talent pipelines ahead of demand for critical skill areas

Candidate Experience & Employer Brand
  • Deliver a high-touch, transparent candidate experience that reflects Morningstar's values
  • Act as a candidate coach-guiding individuals through the process and advocating for strong talent
  • Promote Morningstar as an employer of choice through networks, events, and outreach

Process & Continuous Improvement
  • Drive process improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and candidate experience
  • Maintain accurate data

What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of recruiting experience, with strong technical recruiting expertise
  • Proven success hiring for engineering, data, or product roles in a competitive market
  • Experience operating as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders
  • Strong sourcing capability, including passive candidate engagement
  • Deep understanding of technical roles, skillsets, and hiring challenges
  • Excellent stakeholder management, influencing, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple complex searches simultaneously
  • Experience using ATS platforms (Workday preferred)
  • Data-driven mindset with strong attention to detail and process rigor

This role does not qualify for immigration sponsorship. Morningstar will not be considering candidates that require immigration sponsorship now or in the future for this role.
