Job description

At Moody’s, we unite the brightest minds to turn today’s risks into tomorrow’s opportunities. We do this by striving to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome to be who they are—with the freedom to exchange ideas, think innovatively, and listen to each other and customers in meaningful ways. Moody’s is transforming how the world sees risk. As a global leader in ratings and integrated risk assessment, we’re advancing AI to move from insight to action—enabling intelligence that not only understands complexity but responds to it. We decode risk to unlock opportunity, helping our clients navigate uncertainty with clarity, speed, and confidence.

If you are excited about this opportunity but do not meet every single requirement, please apply! You still may be a great fit for this role or other open roles. We are seeking candidates who model our values: invest in every relationship, lead with curiosity, champion diverse perspectives, turn inputs into actions, and uphold trust through integrity.

Skills and Competencies
  • 15+ years of experience in tax accounting and strategy with large, multi-national organizations, including at least 10 years in leadership roles supporting executive teams
  • Expertise in ASC 740, including application to complex tax, accounting, and financial transactions, as well as understanding of ASC 740-related SEC disclosure requirements (e.g., ASU 2023-09)
  • Proven ability to compute and analyze global tax provisions, assess reserves for uncertain tax positions, and forecast global tax impacts within complex multi-national structures
  • Extensive experience with tax planning, optimization strategies under OECD Pillar II, intercompany agreements, transfer pricing, and M&A tax implications, including risk analysis and structuring recommendations
  • Strong knowledge of global tax compliance, including corporate income tax, VAT/indirect tax, withholding taxes, and monitoring/implementing new legislative changes
  • Demonstrated ability to enhance SOX controls, identify and mitigate financial/operational risks, and maximize U.S. federal and state tax filing positions while minimizing audit exposure
  • Strategic thinker with excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, capable of engaging C-suite executives and translating complex tax concepts into actionable insights
  • Proven leadership in building high-performing teams and fostering innovation through technology, with a foundational understanding of artificial intelligence concepts and a strong curiosity for learning how emerging tools like AI can be responsibly integrated to drive efficiency, improve processes, and manage risks
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA certification required
  • Masters in Taxation or MBA degree preferred
Responsibilities

Moody’s seeks a Senior Vice President for Global Tax to lead tax strategy, U.S. GAAP compliance, transfer pricing, and align tax goals with business objectives

  • Oversee U.S. GAAP tax accounting, reporting, and compliance, including uncertain tax positions and quarterly tax provision/disclosures
  • Collaborate on global effective tax rate forecasting with Corporate Planning and international tax teams
  • Build and maintain documentation for transfer pricing policies and assertions
  • Assess and monitor global tax law changes and their impact on the company
  • Ensure strong internal controls and lead tax audits to maintain compliance
  • Drive tax strategy development and execution aligned with company goals and risk profile
  • Implement technology and process improvements to enhance tax function efficiency
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing tax team while fostering collaboration with finance and business leaders
About the Team

The Global Tax team at Moody’s plays a critical role in supporting the company’s financial integrity, strategic growth, and regulatory compliance across regions. The team partners closely with Finance, Legal, and business leadership to deliver thoughtful tax planning, accurate reporting, and risk-aware decision making.
