Job Summary The Chief Probation Officer serves as the executive leader of the Mono County Probation Department, overseeing adult and juvenile probation services and departmental operations. This position provides strategic leadership in policy development, budget administration, personnel management, and regulatory compliance while ensuring the effective delivery of probation services that promote public safety and rehabilitation. The Chief Probation Officer works closely with the Superior Court, County leadership, law enforcement, community partners, and state agencies to implement evidence-based practices, manage complex casework, oversee grants and departmental finances, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and standards.

Additional Information TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: -Five (5) years of experience performing professional probation work, including at least two (2) years in a management or supervisory position.

-Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university. -Degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, behavior sciences is desirable. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of a valid driver's license.

Possession of an 832 Post Certificate. Completion of P.C. 832 Training

Must maintain compliance with annual training requirements. TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sit for extended periods, frequently stand, and walk; normal dexterity and hand-eye coordination; ability to climb, stoop, crouch and kneel; lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance; reach and lift objects above shoulders; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; physical ability to sustain extra physical effort for a substantial period of time to defend self and deal with violent/aggressive persons; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including computer, telephone, copiers and FAX; ability to operate an automobile. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in office, courtroom, and outdoor environments; work is performed in varying temperatures; some work is performed in confined and noisy areas; continuous contact with other staff and the public.
