Job description


Summary

Under the direction of, and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgment and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in a systematic approach to the direct and indirect care of patients and their families. The SDS/PACU RN provides care in the Peri-surgical setting directed toward meeting both the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient. The RN is a resource person and teacher. Care given reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations.


Job Duties

  • Maintains certifications in all areas within scope of *
  • Demonstrates effective interviewing and assessment skills and integrates new or current techniques to obtain physical/psycho-social information from the patient/family to plan, implement, evaluate and document patient care through the nursing *
  • Informs customers regarding wait times.*
  • Attends annual skills fair.
  • Reports safety hazards, accidents, and incidents promptly.*
  • Participates in "Safe Site" with patient I.D. and *
  • Participates in the control of cost effective services that reflect appropriate levels of staff, proper use of equipment, appropriate use of supplies, and effective management of patient care.
  • Admits and assess patients in the SDS area using the EMR and other current *
  • Verifies all necessary information is available (H&P, MD orders, labs, EKG, & necessary x-rays). *
  • Communicates with Surgeon, OR Staff, MD, and anesthesia any deviations from normal in a timely *
  • Maintains knowledge of medications and IV fluids and their correct administration, based on the patient and patient's clinical condition. *

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, policies, procedures and medical ethics equivalent to years of experience.
  • Circulating experience required, completion of Periop 101 course may be considered in lieu of circulating experience. Hospital experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills at various levels.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word.
  • Required Certifications: Basic Life Support and ACLS.
  • Preferred Certifications: PALS
