We are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Precision Molds to advance our precision lens molding capabilities. This is an onsite position in our Orlando, FL office. We offer a 9/80 work schedule and foster a professional, high-energy culture where employees are empowered to succeed.  This position will work closely with our Chief Mold Technologist. You will have the opportunity to apply your engineering expertise to master specialized mold design principles while leading innovation in larger-diameter lens production. This individual will need to assimilate complex technical knowledge and drive meaningful expansion of LightPath’s manufacturing capabilities. 

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Chief Mold Technologist to master advanced mold design principles specific to precision optical manufacturing  
  • Master and apply LightPath's comprehensive mold design methodology, including our detailed design guide that correlates lens curvature, glass types, and manufacturing parameters  
  • Lead the design and development of complex molds for precision glass lens manufacturing  
  • Spearhead development initiatives to enable molding of larger-diameter lenses, including feasibility analysis, prototyping, validation, and production implementation  
  • Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation for mold fabrication  
  • Analyze mold performance data and drive design improvements to optimize quality, efficiency, and capability  
  • Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting complex molding issues and developing solutions  
  • Mentor non-mold-specialist engineers and contribute to building organizational knowledge in mold design  
  • Support new product introduction with innovative mold designs that meet demanding optical specifications

Knowledge, ability and skills:

  • Advanced proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)  
  • Deep understanding of materials science, thermal management, and manufacturing processes 
  • Expert knowledge of tolerance analysis and GD&T  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail  

Experience/Qualification:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field  
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, with demonstrated expertise in precision manufacturing, tooling, or mold design  
  • Proven track record of successfully leading technical development projects  
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills 

Preferred 

  • Experience in precision mold design, tool and die, or precision optics manufacturing 
  • Knowledge of glass properties and optical manufacturing processes 
  • Proficiency with finite element analysis (FEA) or thermal simulation tools 
  • Experience scaling manufacturing processes or capabilities 
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical EngineeringÂ
