Professionals in this role should have skills in curriculum development, learning management systems, and multimedia tools, making it a viable career choice in 2026.

How close is AI to replacing instructional designers?

AI tools are increasingly used to assist instructional designers by automating tasks like content generation and data analysis, but they do not fully replace the need for human expertise in designing effective learning experiences. Instructional designers bring creativity, contextual understanding, and learner engagement strategies that AI currently cannot replicate. The role remains essential for developing tailored, impactful training programs, often requiring skills in educational theory and technology integration.
