Job description

Summary

Saint Xavier University is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join the Center for Instructional Design and Academic Technology (CIDAT)/Teaching Excellence Center (TEC) team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in instructional design and a proficiency in using Instructure Canvas, our Learning Management System (LMS). The ideal candidate will also be well-versed in developing AI-appropriate assessment and AI-informed pedagogy, and able to support faculty in developing their own AI-informed teaching practice. As an integral part of our educational technology team, the Instructional Designer will collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance the quality of online and hybrid courses, ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience for our students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work closely with faculty to design, develop, and enhance online and hybrid courses.
  • Integrate pedagogical principles into course design to foster active learning and student engagement.
  • Remain current on technological advancements, particularly AI as it relates to teaching and assessment, to support faculty in effectively aligning technology to student engagement, learning, and assessment
  • Conduct thorough reviews of online courses to ensure alignment with pedagogical and principles and accessibility standards to ensure compliance to university and external requirements.
  • Offer expert advice on pedagogical strategies to align course content with learning objectives.
  • Collaborate with faculty to implement innovative and evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using Instructure Canvas LMS
  • Provide training and support to faculty and staff on leveraging Canvas features for pedagogically effective course development.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts from various disciplines to incorporate diverse pedagogical approaches.
  • Contribute to cross-disciplinary initiatives aimed at advancing teaching and learning practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in instructional design, preferably in higher education.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design models, and pedagogical strategies.
  • Strong understanding of AI and its role in education as demonstrated through Artificial Intelligence certification or demonstrated expertise
  • Proficiency in using Instructure Canvas LMS.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail
