These roles typically require extensive experience, strong leadership skills, and proficiency with industry-standard tools and platforms.

Is AI replacing instructional designers?

AI is transforming aspects of instructional design by automating tasks like content generation and data analysis, but it does not replace the need for instructional designers. These professionals bring expertise in learning theory, curriculum development, and learner engagement that AI tools currently cannot replicate fully. Instructional designers who adapt by integrating AI tools and developing skills in e-learning technologies remain valuable in the field.

Job description

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Staff Network Engineer designs, implements, and operates Waystar's enterprise network infrastructure with a primary focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) networking and hybrid connectivity. This is a hands-on Staff Individual Contributor role with direct ownership of architecture, implementation, and ongoing operations.
The role serves as a technical authority for scalable, secure, and highly available network solutions across on-premises and cloud environments, partnering closely with Security, Cloud Platform, Operations, and Engineering teams to influence standards and delivery.
This position may support internal and external, client-facing initiatives in collaboration with Professional Services and Outsourcing functions in support of solution delivery and implementation.
The role participates in a week-at-a-time on-call rotation, providing escalation support for complex network issues across on-premises and cloud environments.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Google Cloud Network Architecture & Engineering (Primary)

Architect and implement enterprise-scale GCP network designs including VPC architecture (including Shared VPC where applicable), subnets/IP strategy, routing, and segmentation.
Design and operate hybrid connectivity patterns using Cloud Interconnect and/or Cloud VPN, including dynamic routing (BGP) and high availability/resiliency.
Implement and govern GCP network security controls (firewall policy, segmentation, and platform-native protections such as Cloud Armor where relevant).
Establish operational observability and troubleshooting practices using GCP-native networking telemetry (e.g., flow logs/insights and network operations tooling).

Infrastructure as Code & Automation (Terraform Required)

Build and maintain Terraform for GCP network infrastructure (VPCs, routes, Cloud Router, NAT, firewall policy), emphasizing reusable modules, reviewable changes, and safe rollouts.
Partner with platform/DevOps teams to integrate network IaC into CI/CD workflows and governance (standards, validations, drift detection, and documentation).

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • 8-10+ years of progressive network engineering experience in largescale enterprise environments, with demonstrated success operating at a senior, lead, or architectural level.
  • Deep expertise designing and operating complex network architectures across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and onpremises environments, including routing, segmentation, and highavailability hybrid connectivity.
  • Proven experience applying infrastructure as code (Terraform required) to network platforms, including standards, automation, and safe change management.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with Security, Cloud Platform, DevOps, and Engineering teams, including participation in deliveryoriented and clientfacing initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate technical designs, tradeoffs, and risks to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience participating in oncall or escalation rotations for critical infrastructure environments.
  • Cloud networking or relevant industry certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Network Engineer, CCNP/CCIE) are preferred but not required.
