Job description

Reports To: New Model QA New Model Manager

Description:

As a New Model Advance Quality Engineer Level 2, you will be a key leader in ensuring the successful launch of new vehicle model. You will lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement comprehensive quality plans, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure the highest standards of quality are achieved throughout the APQP and new model development process.

This is a customer facing role, where you will be the key contact point for customer quality team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of quality plans for new vehicle models, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards.
  • Drive quality assurance activities for new model development, including actively participating in design reviews, conducting process validations, and overseeing risk assessments.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for quality issues identified during new model development, and lead the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor quality metrics and drive continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to manufacturing, engineering, and supplier teams to resolve complex quality issues and improve processes.
  • Be an active core member and participate cross functionally for all APQP activities.
  • Lead new model launch activities for assigned programs, including coordinating prototype builds, pilot runs, and production ramp-up, to ensure product quality meets customer expectations.
  • Lead new model launch activities with plant personnel to ensure timely completion of APQP launch activities and follow-up as needed.
  • Represent the company in customer and supplier quality audits, addressing findings and driving corrective actions as necessary.

  • Build Standard Operating Procedures for Part Inspection for Pre-Launch and Post Launch
  • Complete and sign-off on customer specific approval process Initial Standard Report (ISR)/ Production Preparation Approval Process (PPAP)/Part Submission Warrant (PSW)
  • Obtains customer approval for control of parts
  • Lead development of control plan for new product to ensure consistent quality and makes adjustments as needed
  • Meets quality and quantity levels of assigned work, housekeeping, and safe work practices
  • Oversees data collection and interpretation to coordinate improvement efforts
  • Inspects/tests materials/products for aesthetic and dimensional accuracy
  • Monitor and enforce IATF16949 and ISO 14001 policies/procedures
  • Assists with training Level 1 Engineers
  • Authorities for an employee are granted by means of work instructions, policies and procedures and/or direction provided by management to meet the requirements of the customer

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive quality engineering, with a focus on new model development.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems, including ISO/TS 16949 and VDA 6.3.
  • Proven experience in conducting process audits, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Expertise in quality core tools and methodologies, such as FMEA, Control Plan, PPAP, and APQP.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and all levels of management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer literate working with Window and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to use common tools i.e. micrometers, calipers, indicators, coordinate measuring machine, etc.

Other:

  • Ability to travel for extended periods of time with limited prior notice.
  • Must be able to work any assigned shift.
  • Capable of overall professionalism in a business environment.
  • Must be able to judge color visually and must pass the Farnsworth – Munsell 100 Hue test ever 2 years & pass test with a minimum score of 50.

This job operates in an office and manufacturing environment, and routinely uses standard office equipment. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Physical Demands:

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may also be required to work in hot temperatures.
