Job description

Systems Administrator II is the Systems Administrator responsible for overseeing and maintaining an organization's IT on-prem and cloud infrastructure, including servers, databases, security, backups and disaster recovery. This role involves being the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the systems administrators, developing and implementing IT strategies, ensuring system reliability, performance, and security, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Installs, configures, patches, and maintains Windows and Linux Server environments across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Administer and support enterprise services including Active Directory, Azure Services, Office 365, DNS, DHCP, SMB, RDP, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
  • Perform routine server maintenance, monitoring, and optimization to ensure system uptime, performance, and security compliance.
  • Configure and maintain server clusters, SAN-attached volumes, and multipath I/O (MPIO) settings for high-availability applications.
  • Support hardware platforms such as Setting up and configuring VMware and Microsoft HyperV products like vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi. Series Servers and blades, including firmware updates and diagnostics.
  • Deploy and manage Azure virtual machines, storage, networking, and other cloud services to meet business needs.
  • Monitor and optimize Azure system performance, troubleshoot issues, and manage resource allocation for cost efficiency.
  • Implement security best practices, including identity and access management, RBAC, and regulatory compliance for Azure.
  • Automate operations using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or ARM templates for deployments, updates, and maintenance tasks.
  • Manage and maintain backup solutions, disaster recovery plans, and business continuity for Azure workloads. Administrate Azure VMware Services.
  • Integrate and manage hybrid cloud environments, connecting on-premises infrastructure with Azure services.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, development, and IT teams to ensure efficient application deployment and scalability using Azure DevOps.
  • Work with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, or equivalent to proactively manage system health and performance.
  • Maintain and secure remote access tools including sFTP and RDP, ensuring compliance with encryption and access controls.
  • Configure and manage backup services using VEEAM, including scheduling, validation, and restoration procedures.
  • Support the deployment of enterprise software tools including Visual Studio, Power BI, ER/Studio, SQL Server, and others.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across virtual and physical systems, ensuring minimal downtime and fast recovery.
  • Collaborate with application developers, database engineers, and cybersecurity personnel to ensure operational alignment and compliance.
  • Maintain technical documentation, configuration guides, and system topology diagrams for operational and audit readiness.
  • Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
COMPETENCIES:
  • Strong understanding of VMware products: vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and potentially other related tools. 
  • Understanding and experience with Microsoft HyperV.
  • Networking and storage knowledge: Understanding how hypervisors interact with networks and storage systems. 
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills: The ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues. 
  • Scripting and automation: Experience with scripting languages like PowerShell or PowerCLI can be beneficial for automation tasks. 
  • Communication and teamwork: Systems Administrators often work with other IT teams and end-users, requiring strong communication skills. 
  • Relevant certifications: VMware Certified Professional (VCP) is a common certification for VMware administrators. Microsoft Azure Fundamentals/Associate Training or Certification.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology
Required Experience: 
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, and support
  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals/Associate Training or Certification
