Job Description:  

ACS Middle School Academic Coach includes the areas of 6-8 ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies Curriculum Implementation across content areas. The position requires proven excellence as a classroom teacher and exemplary skills in facilitation, developing, implementing, and assessing instructional strategies to improve overall achievement in core content areas, problem-solving skills, and the use of modern technology for all students in the school. ACS Academic Coaches will use instructional research and strategies, and coach teacher colleagues in the successful implementation of required curriculum and instructional practices. This position will include facilitation of professional learning, classroom observations, instructional coaching, co-teaching/modeling, and development of recorded sessions to model student supports.  The Coach must commit to attending all training sessions and/or professional learning opportunities. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Teach, model, coach, and facilitate research-based best practices aligned with district curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Provide assistance to teachers through a strength-based approach; assistance to teachers will be provided through an asset-based lens.
  • Identify needs and make recommendations for appropriate instructional materials and assessments that directly support and align with the NC State Standards and/or the North Carolina Essential Standards.
  • Masterful knowledge of multiple facets of the curriculum and best practices
  • Highly developed presentation skills
  • Knowledge of effective staff development models that lead to increased student achievement
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Provide professional development at the school and district level.
  • Meet regularly with PLC teams and the principal to report on instructional practices and progress while also planning for "next steps" of student and school improvement.
  • Support teachers with the implementation of the components of the ACS  Instructional Frameworks.
  • Work with the principal to support the school's professional development plan, structure related coaching, and identify specific, measurable, and attainable benchmarks for teacher and student performance.
  • Provide specific integration and differentiation strategies that enable teachers to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Network with Curriculum & Instruction Team,  Digital Lead Coaches, Media Coordinators, and participate fully in ongoing professional development to extend instructional competencies in all content areas.
  • Participate in and pursue opportunities for training and professional learning
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in the school's core content areas or related field. Proven record of excellence as a classroom teacher with predictive characteristics of an outstanding administrator
  • Five (5) or more years of classroom experience in a public school setting
  • Experience as a presenter for staff development programs
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge,  skills, and abilities 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS 

  • Valid NC Certification as a Teacher in a related field
  • Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Curriculum Development, Education, or related area
  • National Board Teacher Certification
