Job description

About JPNDC
Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC) is a community development corporation anchored in 48 years of community organizing and resident leadership. We seek to transform the lives and amplify the voices of Massachusetts residents who have been excluded from prosperity by racial and economic inequities.
We build affordable housing that allows people to thrive, provide economic prosperity services that help people build on their strengths, and organize people to pursue the changes they desire. Based in Jamaica Plain, we dare to envision an equitable and inclusive Massachusetts in which all people have access to secure affordable homes, economic prosperity for their families, strong small businesses, high-quality childcare, healthy and environmentally responsible neighborhoods, political power, and opportunities to fulfill their potential.
What We Offer
JPNDC offers an extensive benefits package, including:
  • Up to 90% of individual insurance premiums paid for health, vision, and Altus dental insurance
  • 2 weeks of vacation plus one week at the end of the year and 14 holidays recognized per year
  • Employer-paid life & disability insurance
  • A vested 403(b) retirement plan
  • CEU credit or comparable training for professional development in areas such as DEI, economic and workforce development, early childhood education, and affordable housing and real estate finance
About This Position
If you are ready to make a lasting impact in the lives of others, consider applying!
The Senior Financial Coach plays a lead role within JPNDC's Economic Prosperity team, providing high-quality, trauma-informed financial coaching services to clients while also supporting program quality, staff development, and continuous improvement. This position combines direct client coaching with mentoring of financial and economic mobility coaches, coordination of complex cases, and contribution to program design, partnerships, and evaluation.
The Senior Financial Coach works closely with residents facing significant financial barriers-including low income, debt, credit challenges, housing instability, and systemic inequities-to help them set and achieve financial goals that support long-term stability and economic mobility.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one, strengths-based financial coaching to residents, supporting goals related to budgeting, credit building, debt reduction, savings, income growth, benefits access, and asset building.
  • Manage a caseload that may include higher-need or more complex client situations.
  • Use trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and equity-centered coaching practices.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records in required data systems.
  • Serve as a lead coach and mentor to Financial Coaches and/or Mobility Coaches, offering guidance on best practices, complex cases, and goal-setting strategies.
  • Contribute to the development of coaching tools, curricula, workshops, and resource guides.
  • Participate in case conferences, reflective supervision, and team learning activities.
  • Facilitate financial capability workshops and group sessions for residents and partner organizations.
  • Represent JPNDC in coalitions, meetings, and community events as needed.
  • Support program reporting requirements for grants and funders.
  • Assist with pilot initiatives or new program models related to financial capability and economic mobility.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, social work, counseling, public policy, or related field, or equivalent lived/professional experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience providing financial coaching, financial counseling, or related economic mobility services.
  • Demonstrated experience working with low-income communities and communities of color.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, credit reports/scores, debt management, banking products, public benefits, and consumer financial issues.
  • Experience mentoring, training, or informally supervising staff.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred
  • Certification or training in financial coaching or counseling (e.g., AFC®, FFC®, or similar) or willing to acquire within the first 6 months of hiring.
  • Experience working within a community development, nonprofit, or housing-based setting.
Compensation
Employment Terms/Compensation: This is a full-time, salaried position with a generous benefit package. Salary range is $65,000 - $72 ,000.
Employment Terms
Applicants must submit both a resume and cover letter to be considered for this position.
JPNDC is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
