Job description

As an Associate Software Engineer, you'll help power the systems that keep product pricing accurate and available across Best Buy's website, mobile app, stores, and point-of-sale systems. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their software engineering career who is excited to learn, collaborate, and grow. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, gain exposure to large-scale applications, and contribute to technology that impacts millions of customers every day. 
In this role, you'll primarily work virtually from home or another nonBest Buy location. However, you must live within a drivable distance to our corporate campus in Richfield, Minnesota. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team, and the recruiter or hiring manager will provide additional details during the hiring process.
What you'll do
  • Learn and contribute to applications that support pricing across Best Buy.
  • Write, test, and maintain code with guidance from experienced engineers.
  • Partner with teammates to solve problems and support production systems.
  • Participate in code reviews and apply feedback to improve your skills.
  • Collaborate across teams to troubleshoot issues and deliver solutions.
  • Build your technical knowledge while taking on increasing responsibility over time.
Basic qualifications
  • Associate's degree, coding bootcamp/code school certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1+  years of software development or engineering experience.
  • 1+ years of experience coding in an object-oriented language such as Java, C#, Kotlin, or Python.
  • Foundational understanding of computer science concepts (e.g., data structures, basic algorithms, and/or system & infrastructure fundamentals)
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and learn from feedback.
  • Curiosity and a passion for learning new technologies.
  • Willingness to ask questions, seek help, and work closely with teammates.
Preferred qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent coding experience
  • 1+ years of experience with Java or other JVM-based languages.
  • 1+ years of experience with to cloud platforms, databases, or CI/CD tools
