Position Summary

The Serving Justice Operations Manager oversees all operational, logistical, and compliance aspects of CALC’s Serving Justice food bus program. This role ensures the mobile food service runs safely, efficiently, and in alignment with regulatory standards. Responsibilities include bus and equipment maintenance, scheduling events, purchasing, food safety compliance, and event logistics.

The Operations Manager works closely with the Youth Justice Coordinator to support youth learning by providing a safe, well-run operational environment. (This position does not design curriculum or deliver youth training.)

This role requires strong organizational skills, food service knowledge, and the ability to manage a mobile food operation with professionalism and care.


Key Responsibilities


Food Bus Operations

  • Manage daily operations, logistics, and communication of the Food Bus program.
  • Assist with administrative tasks pertaining to licensing, tags, permitting, ensuring all are current.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and food service regulations.
  • Oversee food handling, sanitation, and operational safety procedures.
  • Maintain the bus’s equipment, supplies, and readiness, including fueling, tire care, routine servicing, and related administrative tasks.

Purchasing & Inventory

  • Manage purchasing of food supplies, ingredients, equipment, and maintenance.
  • Work with SJ Coordinator and youth to track inventory and maintain cost-effective ordering systems.
  • Coordinate vendor relationships and supply deliveries.

Scheduling & Event Logistics

  • Coordinate Food Bus schedules, community appearances, and event participation.
  • Manage site logistics, setup, and breakdown for events.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for event partners and host sites.

Program Support & Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Youth Justice Coordinator to align operations with youth learning goals.
  • Provide logistical support for youth training activities (without delivering curriculum).
  • Ensure the operational environment supports safe, inclusive youth participation.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in food service operations, mobile food vending, or small business management.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and willingness to obtain certification.
  • Strong organizational and logistical coordination skills.
  • Experience managing volunteers and community events.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and work in food preparation environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food handler’s certification or willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience working with mobile food vendors or small businesses.
  • Experience supporting youth programs or community-based initiatives.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.
