The Maine Municipal Association (MMA) is seeking a Claims Manager – Property & Casualty to provide high-level leadership and technical oversight for our Property and Casualty Claims Unit within Risk Management Services.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and develop a professional claims team through ongoing coaching, feedback, mentoring, and targeted development opportunities
  • Oversee complex property, casualty, professional liability, auto, and public-sector claims, including civil rights and employment-related matters
  • Provide expert technical guidance on reserves, settlements, coverage, and litigation strategy
  • Ensure compliance with Maine statutes, the Maine Tort Claims Act, and internal standards
  • Monitor outside counsel and vendors for quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness
  • Engage directly with members, delivering exceptional service and participating in educational outreach
  • Drive continuous improvement by refining workflows, procedures, and best practices

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a confident, collaborative leader who combines deep technical expertise with strong people management skills.

Ideal candidates will bring:

  • Significant experience managing complex property and casualty claims
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a claims environment
  • Strong knowledge of litigation management, alternative dispute resolution, and self‑insurance programs
  • Familiarity with public-sector liability issues and court systems
  • Excellent communication, judgment, organization, and coaching abilities

A bachelor’s degree and professional insurance designations are valued, along with at least five years of progressively responsible claims management experience.
