Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager,ย Communications,ย is responsible forย creating,ย maintaining, and executing public relations and media related activities for LAFC andย BMOย Stadium.ย 

This role reports to theย VP,ย Communications.ย ย 

LAFC is currently operating on a hybrid work model with a minimum of 2 in-office days per week. Please note that this may vary by role, and your scheduled in-office days are up to the discretion of your supervisor.ย 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop strategiesย and media pitches that bothย generate fan interest and engagement whileย elevatingย LAFC players, coaches, and front office staff on and off the fieldย 
  • Manage the development of proactive publicity, creatingย andย pitchingย feature ideas to both national and international sports media.ย ย 
  • Develop,ย maintain, and manageย strong relationships with all media membersย and team broadcast partnersย 
  • Research, write, and edit media guides, rosters, player bios, coach bios, game notes, press releases, and otherย additionalย media materials for the club.ย 
  • Helpย in the development of consistent and successful messaging throughout all communications and digital platforms.ย 
  • Coordinate productionย logisticsย of publications, ensuring the highest standard of creation and presentation while managing sustainability and ease-of-useย 
  • Monitor news andย disseminateย information and media clips with the organization and its stakeholders.ย 
  • Manageย department inbox and respond to inbound messagesย in a timely manner.ย 
  • Support LAFC coaches,ย playersย and executives with interview preparation,ย such as but not limited to ideatingย message pointsย andย craftingย strategicย messaging.ย ย 
  • Manageย andย executeย mediaย inquiriesย and broadcast interview requests for LAFC players, coaches, and staff.ย ย 
  • Upload andย maintainย media materials on LAFC and Major League Soccer (MLS) media portals, ensuring informative,ย accurateย and quick distribution.ย Workย collaborativelyย withย the MLSย Leagueย office on communications strategy as well.ย ย 
  • Manage media operationsย andย credentials processingย for MLS games and non-MLS related events that take place at the stadium.ย 
  • Attend all LAFC home gamesย to manageย media hosting andย logistics, such as arrival check-ins, seating assignments, and distribution of statistical information to media outletsย 
  • Oversee and supervise part-time game day staff toย set upย conference rooms,ย press box operations, and on-field photography spots.ย 
  • Serve as club PR representativeย and travelย on selectย roadย trips throughout the season, including MLS regular season away matches and other tournament road matches as needed.ย 
  • Work collaboratively with the Club's community relations department to drive coverage of team activations in the local community.ย 
  • Assistย with public relations efforts for LAFC2 (the official MLS NEXT Pro affiliate of LAFC), including but not limited to announcements and weekly media relation efforts.ย ย 
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Management.ย 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited College/University in public relations, communications, marketing, or related fieldย required.ย 
  • Minimum of 4 years' experienceย in a communicationsย or public relationsย related roleย required, preferably with a professional sports team and/or live entertainment organization.ย ย 
  • Must have solid knowledge of Major League Soccer (MLS),ย statisticsย and soccer terminology.ย 
  • Strong understanding of current patterns and trends in PR,ย digitalย and social media.ย 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in English, both verbal and written.ย 
  • Ability to work productively and multi-task in an unstructuredย fast-pacedย environment with frequent interruptions.ย 
  • Excellent public speaking and polished presentation skills - includingย abilityย to be interviewed by the media successfully.ย 
  • Provenย track recordย toย establishย effective working relationships with a variety of media and community contacts (such as newspapers, TV, radio, social media, etc.).ย 
  • Detail-oriented, driven self-motivator with a strong work ethic to get the job done.ย 
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as the event calendar requires.ย 
  • Working knowledge of Google Workplace and Microsoft Office Suite programs - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.ย 
  • Must be able to obtain orย possessย a valid, current U.S. passportย and be able to travel with the team as needed.ย 
  • Bilingual in Spanish orย Korean is a plus.ย ย 

SALARY RANGEย 

At LAFC, we carefully consider a wide range of factors to determine a fair and equitable compensation package. The final offer amount will consider a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience and training. Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure guidelines, the compensation range for this role is up to $80,000 per year.ย
