POSITION SUMMARY 

The Employee Health (EH) Coordinator is an integral part of the Interdisciplinary Team, utilizing the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to employees, hospital outsourced staff and volunteers at MLKCH.  This person will be responsible for delivering services that meet or exceed professional, organizational, community and regulatory standards and provide superior customer satisfaction.  They will perform clinical and administrative services for new hires, hospital outsourced staff, volunteers, and injured employees.  The EH Coordinator will administer immunizations, PPD skin tests, N95 mask fit testing and annual health assessments. The person will be responsible for maintaining well-organized and up-to-date record keeping systems while ensuring confidentiality of employee health records.  They also will participate in a collaborative work environment as demonstrated through teamwork and effective communication.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates competency in performing the 1st part of the pre – placement physical examination and entire process for new volunteers.  
  • Reviews accuracy and completeness of all new hire/contractors or new volunteer forms.
  • Reviews submitted medical records
  • Performs appropriate screening tests relevant to the position
  • Screens for any medical or psychological conditions that may impair ability to perform job duty 
  • Proper documentation maintained
  • Demonstrates competency in performing Annual Health Evaluations to employees, contractors, and volunteers
  • Appropriately administers and verifies results of Mantoux skin tests and immunizations 
  • Appropriately performs N95 Mask-fit testing to individuals that are at risk for exposure to TB patients
  • Assists with conducting proper health screening evaluating work-related and non-work related hazards or symptoms.  Documents appropriately.
  • Assists with job-specific education and counseling to promote safety and prevent injury.
  • Employees and contractors or Volunteers are notified via email, mail, phone call or other communicative method for follow-up issues (i.e. negative titers).
  • Reviews pending files to clear new hires and contractors or new volunteers in a timely manner and ensure completeness of records
  • Collects, reviews, and files laboratory and chest xrays daily.
  • Contacts respective departments or candidate for any missing records
  • Forwards completed files to the EH Director or designee for review and authorize medical clearance
  • Maintains employee and contractors and volunteer active and terminated records
  • Ensures accuracy of information entered and maintained in health files, access, Kronos, and other tracking databases.
  • Audits charts a minimum of once a year.  Makes corrections as necessary
  • Follows-up on any missing records or pending issues
  • Maintains files that were terminated within the last 2 years in EH
  • Forwards terminated files beyond the last 2 years to selected storage facility
  • Assists with the Injury and Illness Prevention Program
  • Provides basic treatment of occupational injuries and illnesses within scope of practice
  • Verifies completeness of Employee Incident Report, Problem List, and Bloodborne Pathogen paperwork if applicable
  • Assist with investigations of injury, prepares action plans and follows-up
  • Assist with promoting Safety Programs or initiatives in the hospital
  • Facilitates medical clearance for employees returning to work following absence due to occupational or non – occupational injury or illness.  Consults with EH Director on all return to work clearances.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of educational material.
  • Assist with the administration of the tuberculosis surveillance program.
  • Ensures appropriate and sufficient office, medical, and pharmaceutical supplies are ordered and maintained.
  • Assist with the Employee Immunization Program.
  • Coordinates employee assistance through HR and EAP.
  • Updates and maintains accurate employee health records (manually and computerized).  
  • Generates reports for annual health compliance.
  • Ascertains appropriate times to complete filing and organizing of file/supply room.
  • Provides clinical support to achieve EH operations.
  • Assist department leadership to ensure that JCAHO and DHS requirements are met that are Employee Health related.
  • Executes interventions in accordance with Employee Health/ Infection Control Policies and Practices along with other hospital policies.
  • Employee participate in a collaborative work environment as demonstrated through teamwork and effective communication.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating of employee functions and activities.
  • Thinks of creative ways to enhance EH operations and/or the services provided to MLK-LA Hospital employees and volunteers and all other customers in which we have contact
  • Assist with maintenance of appropriate logs (i.e. OSHA 300, WIMS, PI Reports) and processes statistical information for injury trending.
  • Provide assistance for Workers Compensation claims as directed 
  • Together with the Employee Health Director helps create, implement and drive initiatives to assist in lowering OSHA recordable injuries, WC claims and associated WC costs.
  • Assist EH Director to effectively monitor the health and safety of MLK-LA employees/contractors/volunteers, coaching them to be safety conscious, and assist with investigating accidents of the organization.
  • Maintains/Schedules appointments for Employee Health Services and provides clerical support including answering calls throughout the day.
  • Maintains Employee Health records; inputs data into computerized program for tracking and retrieval while adhering to HIPAA and privacy acts.

Job Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A. Education

  • High school diploma / GED.
  • Graduate from an accredited LVN school or program

B. Qualifications/Experience

  • At least 1 year of LVN clinical experience required preferably in an Employee Health or Clinic Environment that included clinical and clerical duties.   
  • Valid California Vocational Nursing license
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider from The American Heart Association 
  • Able to perform lab draws, urine drug screens
  • Able to Administer TB skin test, Vaccinations and Flu vaccine clinic

C. Special Skills/Knowledge

  • Must be able to respect and maintain highly confidential information. The ability to engage in reasoned dialogue on complex, difficult, or emotional issues, to be flexible, actively listen, and affect change. Able to give constructive feedback in a supportive manner. Ability to effectively work independently and as a member of a team, quickly build strong working relationships, demonstrate a high-level of integrity, and establish a proactive approach to customer service. Ability to pay attention to detail with excellent prioritization and organization skills. Self-starter with strong project management skills and ability to follow through. Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility to changes and response to new ideas and approaches. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) working knowledge of Kronos is a plus. This professional must possess intermediate math skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
