Job description

Overview

The Sports Instructor ensures an organized, safe, and impactful sports program operation for all participants. The Instructor will assist with the planning, leading, and supervision of youth and adult sports including practices, clinics, and games.ย

Schedule

  • Location: Mission Valley YMCA
  • Basketball and/or volleyball experience
    • Mondays & Tuesdays: 5:00pm - 7:00pm
    • Wednesdays: 4:00pm - 7:00pm
    • Saturdays: 9:00am - 2:00pm
Responsibilities
  • Plan, lead, and supervise assigned youth and adult sport practices, clinics, and gamesย 
  • Prepare sports fields and courts for use including equipment set up and breakdownย 
  • Maintain all sports equipment used by the sports departmentย 
  • Maintain a safe environment ensuring playing areas are suitable for game playย 
  • Ensure a safe program operation for all participantsย 
  • Provide continual instruction and supervision of group and serve as a leaderย 
  • Serve as score keeper for assigned gamesย 
  • Attend and actively participate in assigned staff meetingsย 
  • Maintain a positive relationship with staff, participants, volunteer coaches, and parentsย 
  • Track attendance of participants in games, clinics, and practices and maintain recordsย 
  • Follow YMCA standards, procedures, guidelines, objectives and goalsย 
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm in all phases of work with participantsย 
  • Ensure effective communication with parents, colleagues, volunteers, and participantsย 
  • Instill, teach and model YMCA values at all timesย 
  • Other duties as assignedย ย 
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Minimum of 6+ month's experience in organized youth and adult sportsย 
  • Physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform job related tasksย 
  • Must have visual, physical, and auditory ability to act swiftly in emergency situationsย 
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and includeย subsequentย arrest notificationsย 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained withinย 30 daysย ofย hireย and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:ย 
    • American Red Crossย 
    • American Heart Associationย 
    • American Safety & Health Instituteย
