Job description

Position Overview

Turner Staffing Group is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to support a mining client in Midland, TX. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day plant operations, leading the hourly workforce, and ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective production.

The Operations Manager will work closely with maintenance, engineering, and corporate teams to ensure equipment reliability, execute mine plans, and drive continuous improvement across operations. This individual will play a key role in budgeting, capital planning, and maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong operational and maintenance experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperations Leadership (15%)
  • Lead, coach, and direct hourly personnel in conjunction with frontline supervisors

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

  • Manage workforce performance, including hiring, training, and discipline

Equipment & Maintenance Coordination (15%)
  • Ensure mobile and stationary equipment meet availability and performance targets

  • Partner with maintenance teams to ensure equipment is properly maintained and reliable

  • Align maintenance activities with production goals

Strategic Planning & Cost Management (30%)
  • Lead long-term operational planning, including process improvements, capital projects, and budgeting

  • Support development and execution of annual budgets and capital plans

  • Monitor and control plant operating costs through effective planning and resource management

  • Work with corporate engineering to execute mining plans in alignment with operational goals

Safety, Environmental & Quality Programs (20%)
  • Ensure implementation and continuous improvement of safety, health, environmental, and quality programs

  • Lead training initiatives and ensure compliance with all regulatory and company standards

  • Support audits, inspections, and corrective action plans

Production & Maintenance Scheduling (10%)
  • Coordinate production and maintenance schedules to meet customer demand and sales targets

  • Optimize workflow between operations and maintenance to minimize downtime

Additional Responsibilities (10%)
  • Perform administrative duties including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and reporting

  • Support cross-functional initiatives and special projects as needed

Leadership & Supervision
  • Directly manage and develop a team of approximately 510 employees

  • Operate with a high level of autonomy, with performance reviewed at key milestones

  • Foster collaboration across operations, maintenance, and engineering teams

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mining, Electrical, or related field) preferred
    OR

  • High School Diploma/GED with 7+ years of progressive maintenance/operations experience

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in maintenance, operations, or plant leadership

  • Experience in mining, aggregates, or heavy industrial environments strongly preferred

  • Proven leadership experience managing teams in a production environment

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of maintenance programs and systems (experience with JD Edwards preferred)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Understanding of mining operations, equipment, and production processes

  • Must be able to walk, climb, stoop, kneel, and lift 1020 lbs

  • Required to wear appropriate PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, respirator, etc.)

  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts as needed

  • Valid driver's license required

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call, weekends, and holidays as needed

  • Must be able to meet respirator fit requirements
