CLOSING DATE: Position will remain open until filled Job Title: Equipment Operator (Position # 3612) Salary: Pay Grade 11; Hiring Rate $46,904 Provisions of Personnel Ordinance for Promotion/Demotion/Transfer Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; M-F; overtime is required This position has been determined to be non-exempt under the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or state awarded GED; two (2) years' experience as a heavy equipment operator required; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. Must possess an unrestricted Georgia Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Within 180 days, employees must complete and obtain the following certifications: Georgia Pesticide Applicators License, Flagger, Traffic Incident Management.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB: Under general direction, operates light and heavy equipment for the purpose of maintaining and constructing public grounds, sidewalks, curbs, rights-of-way, and related areas. Utilizes technical devices such as transits, surface pros, tablets, digital measuring devices. May be required to supervise crew staff as assigned. Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to work on-call and overtime as required including emergency situations. Reports to Parks Supervisor. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of law enforcement and restraining devices. Must be proficient at operating heavy and light equipment including, but not limited to backpack blowers, weed eaters, rakes, shovels, picks, small grounds equipment etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to forty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to thirty pounds frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of forty to sixty pounds. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ALL FUNCTIONS MAY NOT BE PERFORMED BY ALL INCUMBENTS
• Exercises responsibility for and ensures compliance with established policies and full utilization of personnel,
materials, and facilities with concern for quality, safety and efficiency.
• Utilizes/operates various pieces of light and heavy equipment as required in the maintenance and repair of parks
assets and related structures such as dump trucks, tractor with bush hog, chain saws, backhoe, 250 loader, compactor, large track hoes, chippers, grinders and all other types of equipment.
• Assigned crew may consist of minimum-security inmates
• Prepares sub-grade and base materials for paving and concrete related to parks assets. Measures to calculate quantities of materials including dirt, asphalt, concrete, building materials and crushed rock.
• Responsible for overseeing and building parks assets to departmental specifications. Oversee the complete cleaning and maintenance of Department vehicles.
• Performs other duties as required such as delivering supplies, maintaining equipment, and operating specialty equipment.
• Ensures that all safety procedures are followed related to T.I.M. and other nationally recognized safety programs
• Ensures that all workplace and work zone safety practices are utilized.
• Operates a variety of standard heavy equipment including, but not limited to vehicles, articulating bucket lifts,
clam and bucket trucks, dump trucks, articulated loader, rubber tire tractor/loader, trailer, backhoe loader, mini- excavators, and skid steer loader.
• Performs pre-trip and daily inspections to assigned equipment or vehicle. Checks brakes, lights, belts, hoses, fluid levels, air pressure, etc., reports equipment or vehicle service, maintenance, or repair needs to immediate supervisor. Records inspections and routine service log utilizing a digital app
• Performs maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment in good clean working condition.
• Loads and hauls gravel, debris, and other materials onto various trucks and haulers to and from job sites.
• Assists with maintenance of safety equipment (i.e., atmospheric gas detector calibrations, maintenance/repair of fall arrest equipment, maintenance/repair of forced ventilation blowers.)
• Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment, fuels as needed; assists in cleaning vehicles and other equipment.
• Performs job site safety procedures to set up and maintain safe workspace at all times.
• Weed eats ditches and retention ponds.
• Installs and repairs drainpipes.
• Repairs and replaces damaged parks assets and surrounding areas including removal and replacement of
fences, landscaping, etc.
• Pours and finishes concrete.
• Will operate chipper, mulcher, and a variety of other small hand tools.
• Utilizes small equipment such as trash pumps, chippers, grinders, motor mixers in the maintenance and
construction of parks assets.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
