What is a dynamic positioning operator?

A Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) is responsible for maintaining a vessel's position and heading using a computerized DP system. They monitor and control thrusters, propellers, and other positioning mechanisms to ensure stability, often in offshore operations like oil rigs, subsea construction, and cable laying. DPOs must follow strict safety protocols and respond to system alarms or failures. Certification and specialized training are required to operate DP systems effectively.

What are some common challenges dynamic positioning operators face during their daily work?

Dynamic Positioning Operators often navigate high-pressure situations, such as maintaining vessel stability during challenging weather or heavy marine traffic. They must rapidly assess fluctuating data and respond swiftly to equipment faults or system alarms to prevent incidents. Collaboration with bridge officers, engineers, and offshore teams is crucial, as is staying vigilant and alert for extended watch periods. Adapting to varying offshore assignments and unexpected operational changes is also a key part of the role, contributing to a dynamic and rewarding work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dynamic positioning operator?

To thrive as a Dynamic Positioning Operator, you need a solid grounding in maritime operations, navigation, and vessel control, usually backed by relevant seafaring experience and a valid DP certificate. Familiarity with dynamic positioning systems, radar, and computer-based navigation tools is essential, as is the ability to interpret real-time data. Strong situational awareness, clear communication, and decisive problem-solving skills set top performers apart. Mastery of these skills ensures safe vessel operations, especially during critical tasks such as offshore drilling or platform supply work, where precision and teamwork are vital.

How much do dynamic positioning operators make?

Dynamic positioning operators typically earn between $70,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience, certifications, and the employer. They operate sophisticated computer systems to maintain vessel position, often working in offshore environments with shift schedules.

How to become a dynamic positioning operator?

To become a dynamic positioning operator, candidates typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, followed by specialized training or certification in dynamic positioning systems, often provided by maritime academies or technical schools. Prior experience in maritime operations, strong technical skills, and familiarity with navigation and control systems are also important, along with obtaining relevant certifications such as STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping).

DYNAMIC EXECUTIVE / LEADERSHIP POSITION

Job description

DYNAMIC EXECUTIVE / LEADERSHIP POSITION

*See notes below on how to obtain an interview for this position.

I am the Founder and CEO of Fusion Growth Partners, and I am looking for one or possibly two exceptional people to help me lead the company through its next stage of growth who can help us build a $100–$150 million company.

Fusion Growth Partners is an Inc. 5000 company (3x) serving 1100+ residential real estate agents nationwide with a growth model nobody else in the industry has replicated. Revenue: $20-30M. If we execute right: $100-150M within 2-3 years.

Our leadership team is excellent and entirely homegrown. Every Vice President, every Associate Vice President and every Director came up through the company. That loyalty and institutional knowledge is a massive asset and has cemented our positive culture.

Our current constraint is the ability to solve problems faster than our scale is creating and right now we could scale a lot faster – with the ability to solve high level problems at a great rate.

Stated slightly differently, the only constraint on our growth is our management’s capacity to solving those problems our growth creates to keep pace with the potential rate of scale.

I'm looking for one or two people with a skill set that doesn't currently exist inside Fusion,  people who can take the load off me and lift our existing leadership at the same time.  The goal is to give an already-strong team the operational, financial, and strategic depth to perform at a much bigger level and to solve problems at a much faster pace.

The right person is a strategic and detail-driven thinker, high EQ, comfortable holding boundaries and accountability with people, genuinely motivating rather than just directive, and hungry to make their mark and exceptional at solving problems.

Fusion provides professional and business support services for top producing residential real estate agents through our business infrastructure and internal team.

We have developed systems and capabilities that allow us to provide an extraordinary amount of individualized support at scale, in ways that are extremely difficult for traditional companies to replicate.

I am proud of what we have built so far, but we are nowhere near finished.

Today, Fusion is approximately a $20–$30 million organization. Our objective is to build a $100–$150 million company over the next FEW years – by dramatically increasing our rate of growth and improving the level of services at the same time.

ABOUT FUSION

We have spent years building a company around a relatively simple observation: successful residential real estate agents are often very good at selling real estate, but building and operating a sophisticated business operation around themselves is extraordinarily difficult. They need marketing, bookkeeping, recruiting, technology, project management, database management, transaction support, systems, processes, accountability, coaching and dozens of other capabilities. Traditionally, an agent either has to build all of this themselves, hire an expensive internal staff, or live without much of it.

Fusion created another model to solve this.

We have built an infrastructure capable of providing an extraordinary amount of business support to successful real estate professionals across the country. Depending upon the relationship, we can provide services individually, as part of larger service packages, or through a true partnership model where Fusion helps the agent operate and grow the business and participates economically in the results.

Today, more than 1,000 successful real estate professionals are partnered with Fusion, and we have built a company generating approximately $20–$30 million in annual revenue. We have hundreds of employees and an increasingly sophisticated operating infrastructure behind what we do.

I believe we have the opportunity to build a $100–$150 million company over the next several years and potentially something substantially larger beyond that. We have developed products, operating capabilities and intellectual property that are difficult to replicate, and we are continuing to identify entirely new ways to bring those capabilities to the residential real estate industry.

About Myself

I am highly involved in our strategy, our products, our people, our systems and the details of how this company operates.

At our current size, I am still involved in far too many decisions, problems, people issues and operational details and it is not sustainable if we intend to build the company I believe Fusion can become.

I need one or two people very high level individuals around me who dramatically increase the capacity of the entire organization.

THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The person we hire must be able to think strategically while managing a high degree of operational detail. They should see the broader business clearly while recognizing that small execution failures, if left unresolved, can become significant problems. They understand that great organizations are built through disciplined, consistent execution across thousands of decisions and actions.

This individual will likely be highly ambitious, accomplished, and still motivated by what they have yet to build. They want meaningful responsibility, ownership of outcomes, and the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the organization. Complexity should energize them rather than intimidate them.

When they see a business with significant potential and opportunities to improve execution, their instinct is to take ownership, solve problems, and drive results. They must also be able to set high standards while developing people, hold firm boundaries while maintaining trust, and combine accountability with strong leadership.

Experience and Knowledge Required

This role requires significant knowledge across multiple areas of the business, with a background that may lean toward either a CRO or COO profile. The right person should have real depth in several areas such as sales, marketing, operations, finance, organizational design, compensation, recruiting, technology, client experience, and performance management depending on their knowledge slant weather it is toward revenue growth or operations.

STRATEGIC AND CREATIVE THINKING MATTER

Fusion is not a conventional company, and many of the challenges we are addressing do not come with an established blueprint. I admire the process in which Elon Musk as been able to grow and  build so fast, by being able to get into the trenches, walk the floor of the factory so to speak and finding those business constraints and frictions and fix those problems thereby, anticipating the demands of scale, and continuously improving profitability and the client experience.

PRIORITES

I am looking for an executive who is motivated by the opportunity to build, lead, and create meaningful impact. Fusion’s next stage will require significant effort, resilience, and commitment. There will be long days, difficult decisions, unexpected challenges, and times when we need to work beyond normal expectations to solve important problems. This opportunity is best suited for someone who is energized by building, solving, and leading through complexity.

THE EXISTING ORGANIZATION

Fusion is an established company with meaningful scale, infrastructure, intellectual property, proven processes, a strong client base, and a talented leadership team. Many of our leaders have grown within the organization and have played an important role in building the company to where it is today. As Fusion enters its next stage of growth, we need to add capabilities and experience that complement the strengths already in place. This role is not about replacing strong leaders; it is about helping them become even more effective by elevating strategic thinking, execution, accountability, management discipline, and leadership across the organization. The right person will create leverage throughout Fusion and strengthen the performance of the entire leadership team.

A FINAL THOUGHT

I am looking for someone who can make a significant difference FAST -  who can help shape its future by understanding and representing the existing core and culture.

If that sounds like you, I would like to talk.
