Millwork Design & Production Manager

Location: Long Island City, NY

Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience

Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site

About the Role

Our client is a distinguished luxury residential millwork division with a reputation built on unparalleled craftsmanship, advanced fabrication capabilities, and the delivery of truly custom solutions for high-end homes. Operating out of Long Island City, they combine sophisticated design with hands-on production - CNC fabrication, fine woodworking, metalwork, and specialty concrete - all under one roof.

They are seeking a Millwork Design & Production Manager: a versatile, technically deep professional who can bridge the gap between design intent and shop floor execution. This is a role for someone who is equally at home generating precise shop drawings and standing next to a CNC machine, and who has the leadership presence to develop a skilled fabrication team. It comes with a genuine growth path for the right person - this division is building toward expanded operations and wants someone who can grow into a senior leadership role as the business scales.

What We're Looking For

This role demands a rare combination: design sophistication, fabrication fluency, and operational leadership. The ideal candidate has done all three - not just one.

  • Technically expert in digital modeling and shop drawing production for complex luxury millwork
  • Hands-on CNC experience - knows how to run the machine, not just spec it
  • Comfortable managing a fabrication team and holding them to luxury-grade standards
  • A design thinker who understands material science and pushes what's possible
  • Client-facing capable - able to communicate professionally about project details, specs, and logistics

Core Responsibilities

Design & Drafting

  • Lead the drafting process for custom luxury residential millwork projects, from concept through construction-ready shop drawings
  • Develop and refine digital models for structural details in coordination with architectural and engineering specifications
  • Generate precise shop drawings for the fabrication team, maintaining exacting standards of accuracy and detail
  • Contribute to project narrative and concept development, translating client vision into buildable design

Fabrication & Production

  • Operate and manage advanced CNC machinery including 3-axis CNC milling and laser cutting for custom component production
  • Coordinate fabrication workflows across design, engineering, and production to meet luxury quality and schedule standards
  • Provide hands-on expertise in fine woodworking, metalwork, and specialty concrete fabrication techniques
  • Supervise and support the fabrication team through assembly, ensuring meticulous attention to detail at every stage

Operations & Project Coordination

  • Manage project schedules, material procurement, and resource allocation within the millwork shop
  • Maintain client communication on project details, specifications, and logistics with professional, high-touch service
  • Uphold rigorous quality control standards across all production activities
  • Drive continuous improvement in fabrication methods, material applications, and shop processes

Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor and develop fabrication team members, elevating their skills in high-end craftsmanship
  • Model the standards of quality, precision, and professionalism the brand is built on
  • Actively contribute to the growth and operational development of the division over time

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a professional design and fabrication environment, specifically within luxury residential millwork or high-end custom fabrication - required
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital modeling for structural details and generating comprehensive shop drawings for complex projects
  • Hands-on CNC machinery experience, including operation and working knowledge of maintenance
  • Multi-material fabrication experience: fine woods, metals, and specialty concrete applications
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills with the ability to manage demanding timelines and client expectations
  • A genuine passion for material science, fabrication innovation, and the application of advanced techniques to luxury environments
  • Degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Construction Management, Engineering, Fine Arts (3D/fabrication focus), or a related field - or equivalent demonstrated expertise

Technical Proficiencies

  • CAD/CAM: Rhino + Grasshopper, RhinoCam, Revit, Polycam
  • Design/Graphics: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Office: Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

The Opportunity

This is an exceptional opportunity for a design-fabrication hybrid professional to take ownership of a high-performing luxury millwork operation and build something meaningful within it. Our client offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience, a hands-on and craft focused environment, and real long-term growth potential for the right person. If you are technically exceptional, leadership-capable, and driven by the pursuit of quality without compromise, we want to hear from you.

Our client is an equal opportunity employer
