Utility Worker Job Description
Olsten is assisting a local client recruiting for a current Paper Mill Utility Worker in Rockingham, NC. We are looking for a hardworking utility worker to perform general duties.This is a long-term temporary to hire opportunity. As a member of the team, you will be relied upon to achieve optimum productivity while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
This is a full-time entry level position on a continuous, 24/7 Paper Machine operation. If you meet the qualifications listed below, please Apply Now!
Job Responsibilities
  • Perform extensive industrial cleaning and housekeeping throughout the paper mill, including production, machine, and stock prep areas
  • Work in a dirty, dusty, wet, and physically demanding environment and assist with cleanup during and after production runs and machine shutdowns
  • Take verbal and written instructions from company managers and maintenance personnel
  • Physically inspect, communicate, and troubleshoot product quality and customer/order specifications
  • Retrieve order specifications, documentation, and order data from internal systems
  • Operate and maintain assigned productivity standards
  • Follow job-specific procedures during paper machine shutdowns and assist with orderly startups and shutdowns
  • Cut and/or set cores
  • Assist with paper machine operations
  • Process paper rolls to customer specifications
  • Move materials to and around the paper mill and stock preparation areas
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and cleanup of equipment and work areas
  • Complete utility tasks and ensure projects are finished and properly signed off
Work Environment
  • Heavy cleaning and sanitation duties are required daily
  • Exposure to paper dust, pulp, water, chemicals, grease, and debris
  • Work performed in hot, cold, wet, and noisy conditions
  • This is hands-on, dirty work and not a light-duty position
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous utility or industrial experience preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret written work orders and instructions
  • Ability to stand, crouch, kneel, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and manipulate heavy equipment
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and wet environments
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating swing shifts (days and nights)
Pay for this position is $17.50/hr. plus overtime as needed. This is a temporary-to-hire opportunity.
