Position Summary

An Ultrafine Mill Operator is responsible for ensuring a mill is producing a quality product as specified in the "Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines". Operator reports to the Production Supervisor for the Ultrafine department. This is a night shift position 6:30p - 6:30a

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management Standard requirements, within their sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, waste water permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.

Potentially Significant EH&S Impact(s): In charge of monitoring their equipment for visible emissions, shutting down equipment with visible emissions and reporting emissions to their area coordinator. Deal with petroleum spills properly.

  1. Inspects mill area for unsafe conditions each shift.
  2. Operates mill in a safe and efficient manner.
  3. Performs preventative maintenance servicing of equipment as required. Ensures equipment is locked out in accordance with LOTOTO procedures before repair work begins.
  4. Produces and loads materials as established by the open work order list and direction given by Ultra Fine Complex Coordinator.
  5. Obtains in-process, final product, or load out samples on pre-determined intervals "Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines" or as specified on "Plant Order Instructions".
  6. Adjusts operational parameters to ensure product remains within specification.
  7. Inspects trucks and rail cars before loading occurs. The operator has the authority to reject those that fall outside company guidelines.
  8. Prepares required daily operation reports.
  9. May direct one or more personnel in the packaging process. The operator may be required to perform packaging duties based upon location or under direction of the Ultra Fine Complex Supervisor. 
  10. Advises succeeding Ultrafine Mill Operator(s), Ultra Fine Complex Supervisors and/or Night Supervisor and maintenance staff of operating problems and conditions.
  11. Employees must learn and observe all applicable company policies and safe practices and perform all duties assigned by Ultra Fine Complex Supervisor. This description covers the significant duties of the job but may not include occasional assignments which would be within the evaluation of this job. 
  12. Knowledgeable of the ISO quality system as required to ensure compliance to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
  13. Follows FSMA guidelines in the daily production of product. 
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be qualified to operate a forklift.
  • CDL license preferred.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow safety policy manuals, MSHA regulations, SOP's, SDS, and various production schedules/reports.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations that include the following: multiplication, addition, and percentages - all of which can be accomplished with the use of a calculator if needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Shifts are 8 and12 hours.
  • Works in all inside and outside areas of the plant and is exposed to heat, cold, inclement weather, noise, vibrations, grease, oil, crushed and ground limestone spillage and somewhat dirty conditions.
    Requires ability to climb stationary ladders up to 60'.
  • Must be able to repetitively lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to move 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and crawl.
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals.
  • Frequently operates forklift.
  • Frequently requires clean up of limestone spillage which includes sweeping and shoveling material.

Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as an applicant's skills, performance, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications and market considerations.

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
