We currently have an exciting opportunity at our Pogo operation for an experienced and motivated Mill Operator on a 2 week on, 1 week off schedule.

What’s the role?

The Mill Operator reports to the Mill Supervisor, and the primary role is to assist in the operation of all sections of the processing plant which include grinding, gravity separation, flotation, leaching/CIP, elution, tailings filtration, paste backfill, mine water treatment and reagent mixing in accordance with specified parameters, to optimise gold production/recovery. This also includes basic maintenance of operational equipment within the Processing Department.

The specifics:

  • Safely start up, efficiently operate, and shut down all equipment in the work area.
  • Troubleshoot and correct circuit and equipment problems.
  • Operate circuits safely with initiative, responsibility, and reliability.
  • Record and maintain orderly operator log sheets.
  • Identify and report machinery maintenance needs.
  • Perform mechanical tasks as needed, within the scope of training and skills.
  • Responsible for maintaining housekeeping standards.
  • Responsible for pre-shift inspections, equipment pre-ops, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with others to maintain operational continuity.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to a positive atmosphere.
  • Train other operators.
  • Report and address safety and environmental concerns.
  • Ensure all safety related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements including Hazard IDs, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas.
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications Required

  • Current Driver’s License.

Desired Experience & Competencies

  • Experience in grinding, gravity, flotation, Leach/CIP, tailings filtration, paste backfill, mine water treatment, and/or reagent mixing.
  • Experience operating plant and equipment
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and display good problem-solving skills.
  • Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
  • Computer literacy, e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Pronto, Process Control systems.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

Working a 14 day on, 7 day off rotating schedule up to 12.0 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
